This classic solid gray wooden shadowbox photo frame includes everything you need to make your baby's handprint or footprint. The clay mold material requires no mixing or baking! Simply knead the clay for about 2-3 minutes. Then roll the clay out with the included rolling pin onto a piece of aluminum foil (not included). Once you have the desired thickness, press their tiny hand or foot into the non-toxic, soft air-drying clay. Press gently but firm enough to capture your baby’s precious imprint. Use the included ruler to cut the clay print into a square. Let the clay dry for about 24-48 hours. Once dry, place the print inside the frame with the double-sided tape. The Good: - The instructions are pretty good & give you a good idea of what to do. - Once you get a good print, they look awesome & show up well in the frame (the picture of the prints in my frame look a little faint because of the glare from my phone) - You get to do arts & crafts with a newborn! - If the print doesn’t come out the first time, you can keep trying until you get a good print - The frame looks to be of better than average quality. The bad: - It is really hard to get a flat hand print! We tried about 6 times before we got a good one ... that whole grasp reflex means that they grab at the clay & smear the print. I recommend 2 people (one holding the clay & one pushing the hand one finger at a time into it) - The clay is a bit stiff & you have to push the kid’s hand/foot pretty hard into it ... if I thought my kid was fragile it would be a concern that I’d hurt them, but they were totally unphased. - The adhesives don’t work great ... 2 earthquakes and the foot fell, so I have to reposition it. - The instructions for rolling out the clay forget to mention that you need to make it big enough to trim the edges off ... we ended up with oval impressions instead of rectangular ones. - Getting a flat surface to do the imprint on was problematic - we had to pull out my marble rolling pin to get a flatter surface. ... show more

    • Harder than it sounds. Great customer service
The impression material is easy enough to use but this is our second purchase and the imprints just don't dry well. Followed the instructions perfectly, left them to dry in a cool, dry place but they still puff up a bit obscuring the imprint. The first time we placed them by a window and the sun must have been too warm, imprints were completely gone so we were sure to both create as deep an imprint as possible and store in a cool, dark, dry place this time around. Some people did this with older children and were able to press the imprint harder but for my newborn, I pushed as hard as I felt comfortable and thought we had decently deep imprints. So word of advice, make the imprint deeper than you think you need because it will puff up some while drying. Frame is nice though and the blue backing can be turned over to pink. Edit* Our second attempt at the impressions were slightly obscured but usable. However, we had the second frame from our completely botched attempt. I added another star because of their customer service. They reached out to me regarding the review above and sent me another package of the impression material for the frame that I messed up (we were planning on just using it as a picture frame but now we can give it another go!). I plan to use again in a few months when I won't be so nervous about pressing his foot and hand in deeper. It's always refreshing to see a company committed to customer satisfaction! ... show more

I was a little hesitant about this product because I'd read the reviews on some other Pearhead frames and was worried about how our daughter's hand and foot impressions would come out in the clay. After using the kit, I'm glad I took the chance. The impressions did get less distinct as the clay dried, and I do wish they'd stayed more detailed, but it wasn't enough of an issue for me not to recommend this product. The frame is high-quality, with glass and all the materials you need (other than your photo) to put things together easily. I personally wish it had additional background options that weren't so starkly "boy" and "girl", but I solved this by just using some scrapbook paper over the backing provided to get the look I wanted. A few notes to keep in mind if you use this kit: The clay does take 2-3 days to dry, so plan accordingly. Wish I'd known this before ordering this as a Christmas gift that needed to ship! The kit doesn't provide a form or directions for an easy way to get your child's impressions to be the same size (or a size that fits in the frame), so add a step where you measure the clay after you've rolled it out to make sure you have enough excess, and measure again before you trim it to have straight edges. I tried to do this, but cut the impressions too big for the spaces in the frames. Luckily, the clay can be cut with good scissors after it's dry - but try to save yourself the hassle and measure in advance! ... show more

I wasn't going to get this due to the negative reviews, but I am glad that I did! I used this for a 16-month old, and I doubt I could have gotten his foot to fit if he had been any bigger. I can definitely see how people might be disappointed if they followed the directions and did nothing else. First, you have to press REALLY hard. I really could not imagine pressing my newborn's hand or foot that hard, so I don't really recommend this until your child is a little older. It took several attempts to get imprints that were good and deep enough, but fortunately the clay was pretty forgiving for redo's. I filled the prints on mine with the rice I use for blind baking while they dried. I think it helped them not lose shape, but it did leave little dots everywhere where the dough expanded around the rice, so if you go this route I would recommend using something smoother and heavier like beans. After everything dried, I did spray-paint the imprints white because the clay picks up a lot of gunk no matter how careful you are! I pressed pretty hard with the adhesive backing, and let it lie flat for a few days before putting it into the frame. I don't know if this helped, but I haven't had any problems with it coming loose as others complained about. ... show more
