  • nice idea but not comfortable.
Size: 20L Color: Charcoal
I have tried a lot of camera backpacks. I really wanted to like this one, but after carrying this bag for a few days straight, I can tell you that it is not comfortable at all. The straps are too thin and they cut into your shoulders. Although the concept is nice, the dividers are flimsy and my lenses kept falling around. On top of this, this bag is heavy. I have a lowepro that is ~1 lb. lighter. The good thing is that this bag can fit a ton of things and it's versatile. And it's cool. But again, it was very painful to carry this for hours. ... show more

  • Poor quality control
Size: 20L Color: Charcoal
Bag seems nice, and I would have liked to have given it a more thorough shot, but unfortunately the front clasp stitching is very obviously crooked. Returning back to Amazon. Might repurchase once it's back in stock. ******Update 3/11/2017****** After looking more closely at this bag before I return it, I can report that 1) It's a highly functional bag, and 2) there are more quality issues - see the attached photo for the low quality (missing?) stitching on the compartment divider Velcro. Given this discovery it's hard to say how this bag would hold up over time. I've owned many different bags in the past, and this is first where I notice these kinds of issues. ******Update 3/19/2017****** One more quality issue and a usability issue to report as I pack this bag up: - Quality: One of the magnetic clasp rungs (that I never used) appears to be scratched (see attached photo). The Peak Design forums seem to indicate this might be an issue with the anodizing process on some of their batches, so I may have gotten a lemon or a used bag. - Usability: The bigger deal for me is that the shoulder straps gradually loosen. I walk several miles a day to and from work. It took me a while to understand what was happening: my jacket gently rubs against the shoulder strap buckles of the bag as I walk, gradually loosening them. The buckles are referred to as "Triglide" buckles, making adjustments quick and easy. While that's true, in applications where you're trying to get from point A to point B without the bag moving, you're going to have a difficult time. The Peak Design forums have similar complaints from users. Peak Design's response is to try to 1) tighten the straps of the bag, and 2) ensure that lateral force caused by objects moving within the bag is reduced by securing them. I have tried both, but neither suggestion worked. The bag has only had a laptop and a few accessories in it (no camera gear) when I experienced this issue. - Next Steps: Believe it or not, given the high quality materials and functionality of this bag (when it works), I've actually ordered the 30 L version. I'm hoping I'll get lucky with quality, and that the larger size will eliminate or mitigate the strap slippage issue. Stay tuned. ******Update 4/12/2017****** - I returned the 20 L version of this bag and received the 30 L version a few weeks ago and have been using it since. Update: Quality: There are no crooked features or missing stitching on the new bag I received; however, the magnetic clasp rung appears to suffer from the same anodization flaw (i.e. it scratches very easily). The left side of the sternum strap on this bag sometimes gets caught on the internal stitching of its anchor point and I have to use a pen to hold the stitching down in order to remove the sternum strap - I didn't have this issue with the 20 L version of the bag. Usability: The gradual loosening of the shoulder straps still occurs. I can't walk for more than 5 minutes with this bag without readjusting the shoulder straps. Whether I'm wearing the bag with or without a jacket, my arm grazes the Triglide buckles as I walk and gradually loosens the straps. The only way I've found to avoid this is to tie off the straps by looping them through the shoulder strap anchor points. This is the is the single biggest flaw with the bag. Other than that, it has been great. The verdict is still out on fully-loaded comfort, since I've only carried a laptop and a few related accessories so far. I have an upcoming trip where I will be carrying a laptop + a large amount of DSLR camera gear. I will report back after that. Weatherproofness: The bag appears to hold up to rain pretty well. The material will get damp, but none of my belongings have become wet as a result. That said, I wouldn't use this bag in a serious downpour without a rain cover. ******Update 6/13/2017****** Usage since last update has included daily use with very light loads and a fully-loaded overseas trip Usability: Fully loaded, the shoulder straps appear less prone to loosening. This is likely due to slower walking speeds because of the heavy load or stabilizing pressure from the load on the triglide buckles. In any event, in order to use this as a daily backpack with a light load, I must tie off the straps so they don't loosen. Fully loaded, it's more usable. Durability: The internal zip compartments appear to stain easily - I have a couple of black stains from my camera lenses that did not come off with water. Will try to remove with detergent/stain remover next. Quality: I've discovered some additional missing stitching, continued scratching/deterioration of the magnetic clasp rungs, ongoing problems with removal of the sternum strap, and webbing which is coming apart on one of the shoulder straps. This is concerning mainly because I have babied this backpack since I received it. One of the recent comments to this review indicates that Peak Design had a known quality issue with some of their packs, so I will be reaching out to them for a replacement and will report back. ******Update 9/11/2018****** It has been a while since my last update. I abandoned this bag for a year or so then decided to reach out to Peak Design to file a warranty claim in mid June of this year. Their response was prompt and awesome. They didn't exactly provide reassurance that the issues have been fixed, but they offered to swap the bag with a brand new one at no charge. The replacement bag has no visible cosmetic defects. I have been using the bag for around 2 months and though it isn't perfect, it appears less prone to the original usability issues I experienced. To be clear: the straps still loosen when walking at a normal pace with a light/moderate load; however, I would characterize the problem as half as bad as it was on my initial bag. I can't yet comment on the durability, but I am hopeful that it will hold up better than the last one. The more noticeable deficiency is the lack of readily accessible storage. I had switched to a much smaller Samsonite backpack, and the ability to compartmentalize my belongings in a way that was both more memorable and readily accessible (especially for documents and small electronics) was clearly superior. For photo gear, lenses, and style, the Peak Design backpack is still a cut above the rest. One additional aside: a friend recently tried hiking with the backpack and complained that it was the most uncomfortable backpack he's ever used. I don't agree, but I admit that of the backpacks I own, this one is the least comfortable, though I would not call it uncomfortable. ... show more

  • I wanted to like the bag
Size: 20L Color: Charcoal
I really wanted to like the bag, but after having owned dozens and dozens of camera bags, I had to return this one after a short amount of usage. I do like the design and I admire what PD was trying to accomplish here. They took a completely different approach to camera bag organization and I think it works if you have a small amount of equipment. I like the materials they used in general but they are some obvious quality control issues. Some of the stitching is not straight, specially important on the main metal clasp. It was not stitched straight and the top flap did not sit square. I would have expected MUCH better quality control for the price. Specific items that I don't think work: 1. They claim the bag is weather proof. It is possible that the exterior material and zippers are weather proof, but the way the top flap comes down does not provide enough cover, this is specially true if you are not careful to make sure the edges are tucked in and don't "pucker" out the side. If they do, they will funnel water into your bag. Pretty crazy that the bag does not include a rain cover. 2. The side pockets are a nice idea but in practice they don't work well as you can only put smaller items in them. If you pack large, thicker items they bulge out to much which renders the outside pockets (the ones that hold a water bottle or tripod) useless. 3. There are not enough pockets/compartments for smaller pieces. This is big, while there are two very nice and convenient thin pockets to hold paperwork, passports and the like, there needs to be more space dedicated to holding smaller items such as filters, teleconverters, etc. These can't go on the side organizer pockets because of what I mentioned on the item above. You can get pouch to put them in and put that inside the bag but it would be loose and rattling around. 4. This has been said by many and I will confirm that this was one of my biggest issues with the bag. The straps. They are HARD, if you carry this bag somewhat loaded for any stretch of time, your shoulders will hurt. Also your back will hurt as well, as the padding on the back of the bag is also hard. Additionally it does not seem to be very ergonomically designed to conform to the back. The wait strap is a joke. Completely useless. Some items I really liked about the bag: 1. The nice THICK and wide handles on 3 sides of the bag, BIG plus. 2. The small pocket in the laptop compartment for passports, plane tickets, etc. 3. The flexibility of the sternum strap, which can be used single handed. 4. The aesthetics. I like the sleek clean look of the bag. It does not scream "camera bag" because it does not have 50 straps dangling from all corners. I hope PD takes this feedback to heart and they work on improving the bag. I would love to see what they come up with once they learn a bit from this. -J ... show more

  • Whats important here
Size: 20L Color: Charcoal
Soooo whats not to say? People on here with negative reviews are mainly focusing on cosmetic issues on an expensive bag. Ok I get it. But why are you buying this bag? Because it looks good? Or because you're buying a product that covers your needs as a camera bag and everyday bag into one. Yea my center stitching is VERY SLIGHTLY off-center and yes the first rung of the magnetic clasp was slightly chaffed when I got it (probably caused by the fact that shipping means these things get tossed around and when I opened the bag the clasp is on the first rung where the chaffing occurred). It's going to get chaffed over time as I use it anyways. Who cares. With the clasp over it, its covered and you can't see it. Function is the priority here clearly and it wins on all levels with that. It just so happens to also look nice. Quit whining about 2 tiny issues that no one would notice. And if you're truly out there with your gear, I'd rather be confident that this bag can hold my stuff than worrying about the stitching being off by 4 millimeters. ... show more
