Description

Remy Lai, the award-winning creator of Pie in the Sky makes her middle-grade graphic novel debut, Pawcasso, about the unexpected friendship between the loneliest girl in class and the coolest canine in town. A Booklist Editors' Choice Winner for 2021, Amazon Best Book of the Month, New York Public Library Best Book of the Year, and Chicago Public Library Best Book of the Year "It's tail-wagging entertaining!" ―Kelly Yang, New York Times bestselling author of Front Desk Every Saturday, Pawcasso trots into town with a basket, a shopping list, and cash in paw to buy groceries for his family. One day, he passes eleven-year-old Jo, peering out the window of her house, bored and lonely. Astonished by the sight of an adorable basket-toting dog on his own, Jo follows Pawcasso, and when she’s seen alongside him by a group of kids from her school, they mistake her for Pawcasso’s owner. Excited to make new friends, Jo reluctantly hides the truth and agrees to let “her” dog model for an art class the kids attend. What could go wrong? But what starts as a Chihuahua-sized lie quickly grows Great Dane-sized when animal control receives complaints about a dog roaming the streets off-leash. With Pawcasso’s freedom at stake, is Jo willing to spill the truth and risk her new friendships? "A beautifully drawn and delightful story bursting with art, books, and fun!" ―Maria Scrivan, New York Times bestselling author of Nat Enough and Forget Me Nat Read more

  • really cute book
It was interesting but also had good life lessons about lying and about dogs off leash. Would recommend this book

  • Adorable!
Admit it, we've all had that moment where we wanted something that belonged to someone else, even ... their dog. This is a lovely story about friendship, belonging, and the awesome power of pets. Plus, as a graphic novel, it'll be in high demand in your classroom or library.

  • Light hearted but with a message
This looks like a lighthearted book, with all the bright colors and all. That is what draws you in. But there is sadness, because Jo's father can only visit every few months, and then, after a week, he leaves again. It is a bit like having him die over and over, and Jo has just given up caring. And then she meets a dog, who goes out with a shopping basket, and goes from store to store picking up things for its owner. And everyone loves the dog, and the owner isnt' around, so what is wrong with pretending to be the owner. And suddenly, everyone loves Jo too. But lies can backfire. Great book. Loved the whole story. Well presented. Fun seeing how Jo finds out Pawcasso's ower, and how she deals with it all. ... show more

  • Fun and easy to read!
I like this book because it is easy to read. It took only 2 days for a 9 year old to read. I wish there was a Book #2.

  • A fun graphic novel for all readers
I really enjoyed this story about Jo, whose father is often overseas because of his job. She misses him, but doesn’t want to admit it. She’s all set to mope and hole herself in her bedroom when she meets a dog who goes shopping around town. As she gets sucked into Pawcasso and his adventures, the lie about him being her dog grows and grows until things get completely out of hand. I loved how the story incorporates the leash laws, which is good for everyone, including dogs, as well as the themes of friendship, community, and family. I loved the story and the art and would recommend this to people of all ages. ... show more
