    • Better than I expected
For a game that's targeted towards ~3-6 year old kids, this game works surprisingly well. The racing mechanics are very solid. Anyone familiar with Mario Kart controls will pick it to instantly, but the controls are simplified a bit to help young kids get started. There's an autopilot you can put on for kids also to ensure they stay in the race, and the game clearly tells kids what button to press for different actions. Ten racers (3 you unlock pretty quickly playing through Adventure Mode once), and 11 tracks that can be played at day or night. Racers are generally identically except for their appearance and special power, and tracks aren't the most varied (there's city, jungle, snow, and raceway "templates" for tracks that are all used multiple times), but they work fine for little kids (heck my bigger kid did fine with it too). Main issues with the game: * Adventure Mode is pretty long for little kids (17 tracks, each taking ~10 minutes), and you inexplicably can't change characters once you start. Not easy to explain this to a 4-year-old.... * Takes way too long time to unlock all the hats/skins/turbo decorations. You need to beat Adventure Mode with all the characters to unlock them all. Few little kids will have that patience. The developers really should have had something unlock after every Adventure Mode race win. Instead it's every four races. * Generally pretty repetitive, though my kid never seemed to notice/care, so that's a win. In the end, this game probably isn't worth the MSRP of $50, but it's absolutely worth $20-30 if you have a kid who's a Paw Patrol fan. It's well made enough to engage kids without enraging grown-ups. ... show more
