Cute gift, the feather pen is rubber. I might not have read the full description, but that is not a dealbreaker. If I hope it to last longer. I got this for my granddaughter who has discovered Harry Potter books and such!

The lock is very finicky and difficult for my 7 year old to open. In the process of trying, before the wrapping was even off, the hasp that the lock attaches to detached from the book. There are holes for some small screws or something but instead there is a blob of hot glue. Shame. The book itself is nice enough. Considered reattaching the hasp but the lock itself is also terrible quality so my kid decided we should just return it. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. The book is sturdy with nice Harry Potter style cover details, and the "feather" pen is a fun accessory, however the locking mechanism is poorly thought out and of poor quality. When it worked, the lock was difficult for an adult to open and impossible for an 8 year old to open. The locking mechanism is only attached to the cover with a blob of glue, so it detached after the first use, and now the diary can no longer be locked. If you are looking for a 1990s style locking diary with a lock mechanism that secures thru both covers, this is not it. ... show more
