  • Sim-lite on console
Bought this game a few years ago as I was just desperate for a good modern air combat game. Having tried Ace Combat and a number of other console titles I decided to take the plunge on this game, even though it was almost 10 years old by the time I got it. To this day I think I have logged more hours into this game than any other on my X360. There are definitely some design issues around the game but if you dig underneath this is the best modern flight sim on any console. Flight models are great and varied between all the planes, realistic loadouts, blackouts/redouts, beaming and f-pole work as they do in PC sims, all the cockpits seem to be accurately represented, solid ACM from the AI enemies, and a somewhat useful wingman who responds to my directions. Even with my PS4 I still find time to boot up the old 360 and get some sorties in with this game. The Arena mode is the heart and soul of the game, very reminiscent of DID's Total Air War back in the day. If my 360 were to die tomorrow I would get another one just so I could play this game. ... show more

  • READ THE WHOLE REVIEW OR THIS WILL MAKE NO SENSE
This is an incredible game. Wait...Game? No, no, no. More like a simulator. This game definitely seems "Arcadey" but it's not. It isn't fun either. (This is where you keep reading, because I know most of you think that's enough.) But it is an incredible g-...Simulator. Even though it's not fun, it just sucks you into it's intense realism. I mean, there isn't even any background music when you fly! If you pull to many G's you black out. If you get shot once or twice, your dead. The graphics, at least on the planes, are AMAZING. You don't get 250 missiles either. You get what your plane can carry. You can choose what you carry though. You can choose long-range AtA missiles, Short-range AtG missiles, Unguided Bombs, Guided cluster bombs, all that cool stuff. You can even choose how much fuel you carry, and to have an external fuel tank or not. You can have assists beyond compare, or do everything manually. Carrier take offs and landings. Extremely long flight time, before you even find an enemy, everything. This is 100% SIM! Well, except for the anime-style characters...But still. Also, you CANNOT compare this game to Ace Combat, or TC's H.A.W.X. Those are Arcade games, and this is an Honest to Goodness Simulator. Don't pay any attention to reviews that compare this to those games. Pros: Listed above Cons: Anime-style characters Recommended to any sim fans. ... show more

  • Doesn't accept ANY flight sticks 😞
If you're ok with trying to juggle rudders with throttle & you don't mind being stuck with a single stick for elevator and aileron control you might be ok with this app. Seems to have a MAJOR software error, where on the second level, you can shoot down your 5 targets only to get a "congratulations" then it drops you. OR you can shoot all your missiles, NOT get all 5 enemy, then get low on fuel, land at the runway (with tower clearance/adviseries & ILS functioning) only to just sit on the runway with no ground crew to reload & resupply?! 😠 Also if you want to do some air-air with your cannons forget it, you can never see the enemy till they zoom past you. bmg, silicon valley, ca ... show more

  • If you like flight sims, and are willig to put in the time, this is a great game.
If you like flight sims, and are willig to put in the time, this is a great game. Forget the novice mode, as others have stated. Go for normal or advanced. Landing is tough, carrier landing more so. you have to reload, you run out of fuel etc. sometimes the missiles are too easy ( fire and forget ), sometimes they are hard. Its a great flight sim, I like it so much , until this gets into xbox 1 , I won;t upgrade. ... show more

I received an advance copy of this set and it's spectacular and is reasons. I can tell you having only gotten to see a few episodes of the series total that the show itself is entertaining.

  • A Buggy Top Gun
I want to like this game. The actual game play is enjoyable and would place the game in the company of games like Tom Clancy's HAWX. There is a certain Top Gun feeling to the game that would make it an enjoyable entry into airplane game genre. However, the game is kind of buggy. The achievements are standard: beat a level, get an achievement. Unfortunately, getting the achievement seems to freeze the game/system and requires restarting the system and frustratingly replaying the level (the achievement will be saved, but the finished level will not be, so the NEXT time you beat you beat the level, you can proceed without issue). So I played a few levels, and would like to play more, but until they patch this game there are other airplane games that don't offer the headache. ... show more

  • Realistic and Fun (one you learn to fly correctly)
This game is hard for newcomers and the learning curve is a bit steep. The game is NOT and arcade game (think of it as Forza Motorsport with wings, but not as polished). The two most difficult parts are learning to accurately drop bombs on target and to evade enemy missiles (the latter being the hardest). To become good you will have to practice, especially with evading missiles, you will just have to get a feel for it (that's the honest truth). This game rewards you for playing over and over again, you find yourself getting better and better. Once you get the hang of it you will have allot of fun doing the customizable missions. The landings and take-off's are very well done. Landing on an aircraft carrier is done exceptionally well in this game. I would set up missions that force me to land mid mission (to re-fuel and re-arm) which I really enjoy. You can also make the enemies as difficult as you wish. Watching replays of these missions are quite enjoyable. The only bad thing about this game is the ground graphics up close (they're only nice looking from up in the air), however the actual jet models are really detailed and nice to look at. I sincerely hope they do a sequel to this game for next gen. ... show more
