  • Fishing boat motor
We got this for our Deep hull 12' aluminum fishing boat. This comes with a 3 gallon gas can and gas line hook ups. It arrived 5 days early! Seller is: LIQUTIYS Put the 10w 30 marine engine oil, 80w 90 marine gear oil (don't forget the gear oil pump), and non ethanol gas. Then put the motor in a barrel of water. And it started on the 3rd pull. The instructions are in English now, unlike a few years ago people were saying it was all in Chinese. We are taking this out for its break in period this weekend and i will update. Update 10-17-21: It ran good at the lake. We are still trying to fine tune height etc. By the way i have a 15 1/2 inch transom. And the plate above the prop (anti cavitation/ ventilation plate) sits 2 inches below the bottom of the boat. So it is a longer shaft than i was expecting, more like a 17 1/2 inch shaft. The manual says the plate needs to be at 1" to 2" below bottom of the boat but a lot of forums say level with bottom of the boat. I will be playing with this since i feel if i lift it a bit higher i may get more speed. So for speed - it is slow. you are looking at 5-10 mph depending on load. We had 3 adults coolers etc - fully loaded in our deep hull 12' aluminum and it was pushing us 5mph at 6300 ft elevation. So a single person at lower elevation prob get around 10 - 13 mph. But it is good enough to get us around the lakes up here for fishing and trolling down to 1 mph no problem. The speed limit on our lakes are 10 mph anyways. So far very happy. Nice fast delivery and it runs good. Plus I love the 4 stroke way more than the old smoky 2 stroke we had. If i had the money approx ($2700.00) i would get a 9.9 mercury. However for $800 and what we are using it for, and being able to use our amazon card for purchase 18 months no interest. I would say its a good deal. Wont win any races but for fishing it is fine. A person we know has had theirs for 3 years now. We hope we have the same luck +. Only time will tell. ... show more

  • How to flush saltwater??
I have been happy with the motor so far. One question; how do you flush out the engine? The manuel shows some kind of attachment made for this but I don't see it, and don't see where it goes. The "earmuff" style flushing devices won't work on this model because of the water intake position.

  • Good Motor/Terrible paint job and corrosion resistant
I've had my 6.5hp Hangkai now for 2.5 years. Lives in salt water on our dingy 6 months out of the year. Very harsh environment living in salt water. These outboards, as is, do not do well in salt water and do not do well to prevent corrosion. They last a little longer in fresh water, but will eventually succumb to the same corrosion. I started seeing scaling/bubbling of paint and oxidation after the first year around the lower unit and engine mounts. It became increasingly worse the next season with more oxidation and paint flaking off to expose the raw aluminum. That winter I decided "I will engineer the Chinese out of this thing" and make it more of a real Mercury quality outboard with better quality paint job and internal parts. Let me start by saying this.....the engine itself is bullet proof. No issues with this thing what so ever. Starts every time with several pulls. Has never left me stranded. Change the oil on a regular basis, clean the carbs periodically and keep all parts lubed won't give you any trouble. Now, the rest of the outboard itself has some issues. The biggest issue is the paint job or lack of paint. What I noticed when I took mine apart and sand blasted all the pieces was the amount of paint on the parts. The entire outboard is cast aluminum with only 1 coat of paint. Don't know if they even prepped the aluminum correctly at the factory before painting. No primer and 1 thin coat of black enamel paint and no clear coat. This, is the cause of the early corrosion on these outboards. When I sand blasted all the parts down to bear aluminum, I treated the aluminum to prep for painting. First prep was using Bonderite C-ic-33 (Alumiprep 33) to clean the aluminum. 2nd step was using Bonderite M-CR 1201 Aero (Alodine 1201) to treat the aluminum. The parts where then painted with etching primer followed by at least two coats of enamel black Mercury outboard paint. Once dry, they were sprayed with Mercury outboard clear coat (2 coats). Because my outboard lives in saltwater I also sprayed a coating of Cosmoline type rust/corrosion inhibitor to add more protection. I happen to use CRC 06026 heavy duty corrosion inhibitor in the aerosol can. There are other brands as well. This 3 season after pulling the dingy out there was no sign of any corrosion on the outboard. The CRC spray really protects the paint job. Now, let's talk about "Engineering the Chinese Out of these Outboards". There is a reason why these outboards are cheaper. There are some cheap parts in this thing that need to be taken out and replaced. As I said earlier, the engine itself is bullet proof and very reliable. The main issues are in the lower unit/ gear box. First critical part that needs to be replaced ASAP! is the two seals on the prop shaft. These seals sit inside the bearing carrier and are there to prevent water from getting into the gear box and keep the oil from getting out. The problem with these seals are 1. There Chinese made and 2. the small spring on the seal is made from carbon steel not stainless steel. The carbon steel springs will corrode almost immediately once introduced to salt water and will corrode eventually in fresh water. Once the spring corrodes and disintegrate, the spring losses it's ability to keep water out and oil from leaking out. Once water gets into the bearing housing your going to start having major issues (bearing corrosion, heat buildup, additional seal failures and eventual bearing house gears seizing up and destroying your lower unit). There are also two seals at the top of the long drive shaft before the drive shaft mates with the engine. These two seals also have carbon steel springs. These seals prevent water from traveling up the shaft into the internals of the engine. These seals need to be replace with quality European/American/Japanese seals with stainless steel springs! Since I had the entire lower unit apart I also decided to replace all the bearings of various sizes with quality German/Japanese made bearings. The Chinses made bearings, although ok, are not the highest quality. For a few extra $$ just go ahead and replace those bearings and have piece of mind. Once these mods/improvements are done, you will have an outboard equal to/better than the name brand Mercury 6.0hp this thing is cloned after. Good luck! ... show more

  • Awesome customer service
Used this motor a couple so far and absolutely no issues at all. Starts up on the 3rd pull and runs strong.. you will have to adjust the throttle which is really simple to do. Package was damaged from USPS as they are horrible with deliveries.. sent an email to amazon which contacted the seller and with in 2 days a replacement cover for my motor was sent out! Pretty good deal for the price of this motor. ... show more

  • For the money these work well so far
Was delivered fast and in great shape . Instructions were easy to follow . Added the fluids and it started on the fifth pull . The break in times are listed well so that went well also . Takes ten hours to do but worth it . So far we have had no troubles with this motor .

  • It just works like the expensive brands.
I broke in the motor after adding all the fluids and then changed them after the 10 hour break in period. I've used it twice now with zero issues. Quiet and no smells. Really good on gas. Use non ethanol in all your smash engines. The 6.5hp only used about 1.5 gallons during the entire 10 hour break in period running it in a 55 gallon trash barrel full of water. I love this motor so far. I've owned 3 other motors which were all 2 stroke and this is hands down my favorite. ... show more
