  • Setting up ordeal
The device came in a sturdy package. The engraver requires minimum assembly. But the user manual is very incomplete, to put it in a nice way. There were two bags with screws. I was able to figure out where half of the screws in one bag belong. The rest I still have no clue. There were no instructions on how to connect the laser module. This is my first engraver, so I really did not have any frame of reference. I had to guess. I also had to guess about the legs. First I had to figure out they were legs and then where and how to install them, which was relatively easy. There was a metal cylinder I could not figure out what it was for. By watching a YouTube video of another engraver, I realized that it was a spacer. It seems that these types of engravers need a proper focusing distance and that cylinder is used for that purpose. After the assembly saga was over, the connection to the computer was the next issue. I have a new MacBook Pro with only USB C ports. The device came with the original USB connector. Without an adapter in hand, I had to use an older Windows laptop. I decided to install Lightburn software. Importing an image through this software was easy. I was surprised that the image started to print right away through the engraver. The only issue is that it printed the image mirrored. So I had to start researching the issue and I found out that the origin was set wrong. The directions in the manual called to set the origin to the top left corner, which matched the ruled base. However, after setting the origin to the bottom left corner, the issue with the image got solved. I also played around with GRBL but I don't think that made any difference. Another issue I found was "homing." The software comes with a home button, which is supposed to set the laser pointer to the origin. However, this machine does not respond well to that command and the software shows an error. I spend a couple of hours trying to figure out how to solve this issue. One of the reviewers of the product here in Amazon said that the device does not have "homing," which apparently is the action of the laser pointer to go to the home position. My conclusion was that the machine does not have a "home" function. However, you can send the laser to the origin, which produces the same results, at least for me who does not have any previous experience with engravers or CNC machines. After my setting up ordeal was over and I finally engraved a couple of pieces of basswood, the engraving results were satisfying. Engraving is not as easy as printing. You need to understand the speed and power settings in order to either engrave or cut material. The User Manual has a table that has been helpful so far to help me with the engraving settings. ... show more

  • Great for the price
This laser does great work after getting it set up. I use lightburn so it's able to set up in a few minutes. There is no homing feature on this laser, so it sucks in that aspect, but there are many work arounds. still trying to see if it compatible with a rotary attachment and camera. I will update that when i figure it out, ... show more

  • Affordable, works
It's one of the cheapest options out there and has practically no documentation. You have to use 3rd party software to run it. The rest looked like it had good precision.

  • DO NOT BUY!
UPDATE#3 WELL….It worked great for a few days now the laser is getting jammed all over the place, making a horrible sound as it hits the walls. I give up on this engraver, it has caused me so many headaches. So, to save you from a severe headache…DO NOT BUY! UPDATE #2 I found the AIR ASSIST! At the top of the laser is a black rubber piece, remove it, and there is your air assist hook up! UPDATE! I figured it out finally! The gantry does not move when the machine is on but moves freely while off. There is no Homing feature but you can set Go to Origin in LightBurn after a cut and works perfectly. Engraves beautifully and cuts flawlessly. I would like to know if Air Assist can be added. Seller please update your website with contact information. I’m sure others have many questions as well. I purchased this item because I liked the front open frame. It is well built but I can not get it to work! Does not home and the gantry does not move at all. Customer Service is nowhere to be found. Please help before I send it back. I would like to give this laser a chance. ... show more

  • Inconsistent cutting
I wanted to like this. It worked great on my first project then I started noticing it was not cutting consistently. With the same setting, on the same piece, during the same cut, I was getting areas that were burned through completely and other sections were it hardly cut through. This kept happening on every piece. ... show more
