  • Osprey Renn 50
Color: Cinder Grey
I just received my Osprey Renn 50 backpack. I have not hiked with the pack yet, so this is just my initial impression of the pack. Until I pack it exactly as I would for a hike, I will not know exactly how it will feel on my back. I packed it with a three man tent, a pad, and a Klymit sheet to try it on. I did not find the torso adjustment hard to adjust at all. I changed the adjustment multiple times trying to find which setting worked best for me. I liked the two options for a bottle in the mesh pocket. I could easily remove my 32 oz. Gatorade bottle and put it back in the pocket; especially, using the horizontal opening. Walking inside, and outside in the yard, the bottle stayed in place. On some packs, it is harder for me to get my water bottle and to put it back in a side pocket. The pack did not feel obsessively big on my frame (in a good way). My head did not hit the back of the pack; the width worked well for me without more length. I like the way the pack sits off the back to allow ventilation. The airflow will be greatly appreciated if this pack is used in our high heat and humid summers. The chest strap adjustment is not on a slider. There are three adjustments loops. I have at times struggled to slide some chest strap adjustments to the point of having to remove my pack to use both hands to get the slider to move. The system on the Renn is easy to adjust; though, I sort of missed the fine tuning of the slider (though I don't miss the how hard the slider could be to get to slide). I, at first, did not think the Renn 50 had much internal space, until I realized the compression straps needed to be loosened; then, I found the space I thought should have been there! The load lifters do a good job of adjusting the carrying of the load. The sleeping bag compartment divider can be removed to allow for options for packing. The external sleeping pad straps allow for packing options. The rain cover is a nice feature. It can be untoggled from the inside of the pack to come completely unattached from the pack. I will rate it 5 stars, though it may be more of 4 stars for me right now until I can know for sure how comfortable it is carrying a load for miles. Dialing in a pack is a ever changing thing as the load changes due to water weight and settling of the load over time. As I walked in the yard with the pack on, the slight nuisances of how the pack wore were unnoticed when I began to look at the stars in the night sky and enjoy the stillness of the night. I believe the Renn 50 will be a pack that can meet my needs when I need a pack larger than a daypack. ... show more

  • Perfect for backpacking!
Color: Cinder Grey
This backpack is amazing. I'm a fan of osprey all the way. I backpack frequently from through hikes to backpacking along the highway and this is the most lightweight, reliable backpack I've ever owned. I'm a small girl, 94 pounds at my heaviest and I can carry this no problem for hours or through a full day. I don't recommend filling any backpack to full capacity but with this I feel like I can carry all I need to and not deal with the typical back pain I get from carrying supplies. Can even do a cartwheel while it's on my back. So grateful to this company, I recommend to anyone who is serious about exploring the world while bringing along any survival equipment. ... show more

  • Great fit
Color: Aurora Purple
Just took on a trip on the Virginia Triple Crown, after getting it adjusted to my back it was great. Love their products. I am 5’5” and it fit well.

  • Made a 2 wk Euro Trip a breeze!
Color: Cinder Grey
It was a little small for a 2 week backpacking trip, but that was my fault. Will hold about 5 outfits, 3 pairs of shoes, hygiene products, electronics and much much more! Great bag, really rugged (I put it through the ringer travelling on planes trains and automobiles in Europe) and it didn’t affect it at all. One of my new favorites! ... show more

  • Good back pack for beginners
Color: Aurora Purple
Just used this pack for my first back packing trip. Had a hard time adjusting shoulder straps. But otherwise the pack was perfect!!!

  • Returning
Color: Cinder Grey
I wanted a smaller capacity lighter weight alternative to my Aura 65 for overnight and weekend trips. I'm very disappointed in the overall fit and material of the Renn 50. Even on the largest torso length the hip belt doesn't reach my hips. The shoulder straps are made of an abrasive mesh material and are really close together. No matter how I adjusted it the straps scratched against my neck. I know it's a lot cheaper than most of Osprey's products but to me it seems like a lot of corners were cut as far as comfort and fit with this pack. ... show more

  • Didn’t fit my body
Color: Cinder Grey
I really wanted to like this pack. But the shoulder straps materials are too rough. And it’s design didn’t fit my body even after all adjustments. It left red marks on my skin and I didn’t even have any weight in in. When the Gregory Jade 53 arrived and I tried it on, it fit me like a glove. So I’m returning this Osprey. It didn’t work for me, but it might for you. All in all, the Osprey Renn 50 has an extremely durable material and is a very well constructed pack. Too bad it wasn’t for me because I had purchased it for just over $100. ... show more

  • Great (starter) bag for the price!
Color: Aurora Purple
Super sturdy bag, almost too sturdy! This bag definitely needs broken in before use or things will be really tight. Nice heavy duty fabric. Holds just what you need for a week trip. The extra space of a 55L or 60L would have been ideal so as not to play Tetris every time I needed to retrieve something. However, if you pack according to what you'll need when you'll need it, this will work out just fine. One down fall is the side pockets aren't secure all the way around. I had basic necessities in those pockets I thought might fall out if I wasn't careful. Great (starter) bag overall for the price! ... show more
