I used the entire gallon tonight when I sprayed. It covered about a 30-10 section and then I did a bunch of spot spraying and then sprayed a bunch of cracks. And I didn’t go easy on it. So it covers a pretty good amount of ground. I will come back and leave an update of how it works. I love the automatic, non-stop sprayer, I got the “small” handle, I can’t imagine what the big one is, this one was pretty good. The sprayer works great. We have this same brand, bottle and sprayer but it’s bug spray, and it works amazing. I will be buying refills for this, I believe the refills are cheaper than just buying another jug. There was no odor at all, there was no leaking anywhere and I love that’s it’s safe to use in your garden. If I don’t come back with an update by April 28th 2026, it means worked really well.     • An excellent herbicide when used as intended per label

When used as intended, per the instructions, this is an excellent organic herbicide. It does an effective job killing the weeds and grass that were sprayed, with noticeable results in a few hours. I use this to kill a variety of weeds around our yard perimeter as well as near our 42 wine grapevines (i.e. not a large vineyard with acreage). Also, to control the stubborn bermuda grass when it starts growing outside our lawn. The key, however, is to spray before that weeds or grass grow really large or out of control. Otherwise, subsequent follow-up sprays will probably be required in short order. Some things to note: 1. This is not a "year long" weed killer or preventer. It's not labeled as such. Ortho does make a year round herbicide...but that version does NOT use the same active ingredient Ammonium Nonanoate and is therefore not labeled as "organic" or for use around vegetable gardens. 2. This is a "nonselective, broad-spectrum, contact” herbicide. Meaning, it can kill plants you might not otherwise want killed, if sprayed with too much wind, overspray, etc. 3. While labeled "ground clear," it will clear (kill) the visible vegetation, but not any seeds in the ground because this herbicide "only affects the plant tissue with which it comes in contact" and "has no soil activity." According to another herbicide maker - "Ammonium nonanoate is a multi-purpose herbicide that’s been used to suppress weeds, underbrush and mosses since it was approved for use in 2006. It’s a naturally-occurring fatty acid found in a variety of plants and animals. It’s referred to as a soap-salt, as certain fatty acids are also used to make household soap." I normally buy Round-up Extended Control, but in my climate, it usually only lasts about 3 weeks before I need to re-apply. And Round-Up takes so long to work. I would see a little bit of yellowing on a leaf, and maybe a week later, the weed would be dead. This time, I bought Ortho to see if it would be better or worse. I sprayed the Ortho product on mature weeds that had taken over my flowerbeds. When I say mature weeds, I mean that some were as big as tomato plants. When I finished spraying all of my flowerbeds (I have a lot), I noticed that the first weeds I'd sprayed were already showing dead leaves...not just yellowed like with Round-Up, but crispy, shriveled dead leaves. By the next morning, every green weed in my yard was dead, gone, not a bit of green still showing anywhere. I couldn't believe it. I've never seen a product work so fast. I will never buy Round-up again. Ortho is amazing. ... show more

Wow! Is all I can think to say about this product. It was already showing results within two hours of using it!!! By the next day it had done most of its work. On the third and fourth days even more results were evident. Bottom line, it works and works fast.

I initially thought Ortho GroundClear was the ultimate answer to my weed problem (see my original glowing review below). The day after spraying, every weed was brown and dead-looking, and my gravel driveway looked totally brown. But after a few weeks, the weeds started coming back, even though I sprayed the product heavily. They’re not quite as thick as before, but the same spots are now covered again. I'm pretty disappointed that the results didn’t last longer after such an aggressive application. For the price and with all the warnings about how powerful this is, I expected more durable results. In summary: -Initial knockdown was dramatic; everything turned brown. -Regrowth happened faster than expected, within weeks. -The weeds are a bit less dense now, but still cover most of the same area. I would recommend it only if you’re okay with frequent reapplication. Safety tips still apply: Keep away from pets, wear gloves, and don’t spray near plants you want to keep. Original Review: I tried everything. Propane torch? Just gave them a warm hug. Salt? Turned my yard into a wildlife snack bar. DIY dish soap potion? Might as well have fed them protein shakes. Nothing worked until this glorious jug of destruction showed up. Ortho GroundClear means business. I hate using chemicals. But after my gravel driveway turned into a botanical uprising of weeds, I had no choice. This stuff sprayed clean, even, and consistently thanks to the battery-powered wand (which, by the way, lasted the entire gallon, 20 minutes of satisfying annihilation). The next day, the green was gone. The Earth turned brown. I'm continuing to watch the progress, but this has provided the best results I've had to date. If you’re tired of playing nice with weeds, this is your final solution. Five stars and a moment of silence for the crabgrass. Keep away from pets. Wear gloves. Do not spray near anything green that you want to live. Nothing survives this stuff. ... show more
