I bought the Orly x Harry Potter Lumos nail polish for my daughter, and she is obsessed. As soon as she saw the bottle and heard it was the one that glows in the dark, she declared it her new favorite. The color is a beautiful silvery-white with a subtle shimmer that looks elegant in normal light. But the real wow factor is the glow as it actually charges up under light and gives off a soft, enchanting green glow in the dark, just like casting “Lumos”! She keeps turning off the lights to show everyone and squeals with excitement every time. Application is easy, and it lasts pretty well even with an active kid. The formula feels high-quality and doesn’t chip as fast as cheaper polishes. This has easily become her go-to polish. It turned regular nail painting time into a full Harry Potter experience. She feels like she is part of Gryffindor House just like Hermione. My daughters love that you can see their nails glow in the dark. It truly works. Have to trigger it for a minute against a light source but it works! We used the flashlight on our iPhone.

Pros: Easy to apply, dries quickly and reasonably flat (normal top coat over top is sufficient for smoothness). The color is great and fairly true to the pictures. One coat gives good coverage, for angle top coat. Looks cool when applied with a sponge for full coverage. Cons: none

I'll start with what I like. I like the polish as a whole; it is a good consistency, not chunky, and dries quickly to a strong finish. The flakies give just enough shine to be subtle, but fun. I like the color and will try layering it over solid colors. And it DOES glow. It's a nice greenish-yellow glow, and I can see it in the pitch black. It DOES NOT glow strongly, though. You can see the side-by-side comparison between this and Mooncat's famous Green Eyed Monster polish; both were painted 1 layer on a card, and held directly under a bright light bulb for 30 seconds. The Mooncat polish illuminates the area; the Orly polish pales in comparison. ... show more

    • It’s fine
It works ok, you can’t put only a thin coat of it on or it doesn’t crack properly. I’ve only used it once and it didn’t crack as much as I thought it would. The color looks nice with top coat. It does take a long time for it to dry and crack fully. It’s a little expensive for the job it does.
