Description

Ever since the release of the Nintendo Switch, more than 80 million gamers globally have made on-the-go gaming a huge part of their daily ritual. Unfortunately, many of these gamers also believe this handheld gaming experience is a bit underwhelming because of the minuscule size of the current Nintendo Switch screen. The ORION 11.6 In. Gaming Monitor from Up-Switch was created for gamers craving a larger and more immersive gaming experience without giving up portability. By increasing your actual gaming screen size by 188% and upgrading your audio experience with the integrated stereo speakers, your Nintendo Switch combined with ORION will deliver the gaming experience that every gamer deserves! Never run out of battery while you game again. While your Nintendo Switch is docked in the back of the ORION, it will continue to charge even while playing when your ORION is plugged in with its USB-C based charging. That's right, you can extend the battery life of your Nintendo Switch while ORION gets powered via the portable battery connection. ORION truly is the ideal Nintendo Switch companion. Bigger screen, amazing speakers, better Ergo Grips and designed to hold almost any brand of USB-C battery pack. It's time to play your favorite Nintendo Switch games without compromise!

Top Amazon Reviews

  • It is what it is...and actually is a little more than what some people might think....
I'd already seen and read multiple reviews when I decided to purchase the Orion, so when it finally went on sale I ordered one. It's basically as described, a jumbo display for the Switch (any non-Lite version.) It's not a high-quality display, it's not as good as the OLED on the newest Switch model, and with a WXGA (1366x768) resolution, it matches neither the HD or FHD resolutions that the Switch normally outputs, so it'll have to scale the image resulting in it being slightly blurry. And, of course, it requires external power, specifically 15 V at at least 2.6 A. So why is that all OK? Especially when you can get a portable monitor, often one that can do power and video over a single USB-C connection (HDMI and/or DP Alt Mode) for around $100. Well, it's because that $100 won't work on the Switch like it will on, say, the Steam Deck or any of the portable Windows handhelds from Aya, GPD, Ayn, etc. Those devices will generally do video out from the aforementioned USB-C ports using a video Alt Mode, which the Switch can't do. The Switch has to be docked (and the dock needs to see that specific, out-of-spec power profile) in order to output video...and that's what makes the Orion unique: it's actually a monitor with a built-in dock, which doesn't seem to be appreciated or acknowledged by some of the people who've reviewed this thing. While it's not perfect, and it makes quite a few compromises to work, it's a very niche accessory that does what it has to do to work with the Switch. And that's why it carries a price premium, although I think around $200 is the max that's acceptable for what it is (especially this late in the Switch's life cycle.) Beyond all that, it's a product that does what it claims to do. I tried it out for several hours with No Man's Sky on my original Switch model, and had a blast. I set the output to HD instead of FHD due to the necessary scaling from either resolution due to the Orion's different display resolution, assuming that in docked mode it should get the benefit of the higher-power performance mode, to a greater degree with the lower resolution. The game played and looked great; it might not have been as sharp as if the output matched the display's resolution, but it was very playable and easy to read text. The massive display size easily outweighed any reduction in sharpness. The speakers are acceptably loud and clear. The whole package definitely has some heft, but I didn't think it's that bad, especially coming from the Steam Deck; also, because the USB port is out the side, you can easily rest the bottom of the Orion on a surface. The only negative was that it's a little hard to slide a game cartridge out of the Switch while it's docked and sitting flush against the back of the Orion. But yeah, if the price is right, this is an excellent accessory to those of us still enjoying the Nintendo Switch going into 2023. ... show more

  • Works great but there is a slight learning curve
When attaching the grips: you need to press down, and apply pressure sliding them toward the base of the unit to get the screw holes to line up properly. Insert power cord into the Orion screen. (Connected to either a charged power bank, or wall cord). Press the power button, and ensure the blue light comes on. Turn on your Nintendo Switch before inserting into the Orion screen. if you don’t get it inserted into the Orion screen fast enough: the Nintendo Switch will go to sleep, and the Orion screen will display “No signal”. The Orion screen logo will appear after a few seconds. Then the screen will go black. Then it takes another 5-10 seconds for the Nintendo Switch screen to appear. Sometimes it takes several more seconds for the Joycons to begin working. The right one will connect first, and after a few more seconds the left one will be connected After that you can enjoy playing normally. I love mine; and since all my games are digital copies I leave it in the Orion screen all the time. Just need to open it enough to press the power button on the Nintendo Switch if it has been off/asleep for an extended period of time. The box comes with 4 little pieces of plastic you can snap in where the velcro straps go if you aren’t going to use them to strap in a power bank. (Don’t think the instructions mention what they are for). The picture I submitted for this review is what it looks like with the straps removed and the plastic covers inserted. Happy gaming! Edit: After playing daily for a month I like it even more. I’ve realized since I always use sleep mode: I only need to press the home button, and power on the Orion to begin playing again (never need to take my Switch out of the screen). Also, I noticed the similar 10.1” screens sold on Amazon have a big border at the top/bottom, and I love how the games fill the whole screen on this one. ... show more

  • Cool product, but mine is defect
The media could not be loaded. First I was very happy to have it. Haven‘t used it much, but now the sound output ist not working anymore/correctly. Also ingame it is lagging often. Whether with power connection or powerbank, I also tried with three differrent Switches. I started a return but I need to send it back on own cost, Amazon told me they‘ll cover the cost afterwards. I hope it’ll work. I have waited a few weeks till it was delivered to Germany. I‘ll reorder after getting the refund. Now it ist 40$ cheaper. Unhappy situation for me. Will update this review. Update: return has finished and I‘m unsatisfied with the result. I got the refund for the item and custom fees, but I had to write several times to Amazon customer support to get the shipping cost back. Three Amazon employees told me that I should not worry about it. I had to write again and again and got only a gift card instead the money back onto my bank accout which is bad for me, because I‘m living in Germany and I don‘t think that I‘ll order again on Amazon USA when the process is that complicated. ... show more
