  • Great product! Repaired my vintage bike!
Color: Silver
This worked great for my bianchi advantage. This headset comes with two crown race sizes. I highly recommend if you want to ditch your old bearing race for a new sealed style headset! 5/5!

  • Good product
Color: Black
Installed it on our aging Cannondale Tandem. It appears well machined and should be much more durable than the ball bearing unit it replaced.

Color: Black
This thing is gorgeous! It looks very sharp on the vintage Japanese 10-speed I am restoring. Headset arrived without any dings or scratches and installed without any issues. However - it was quite tight, so I removed it, took apart all bearings, packed everything with grease and re-installed. after that it is smooth as butter. I had no issues with any play after install. The bearings, as others have mentioned are not true "sealed" bearings, but the do snap together quite nicely. I am guessing that any issues people are having may be to the bearings not being properly aligned and snapped together. The other thing to be aware of - is the stack height. The lock nut is a good 2 to 3mm from the top of my steer tube, so I will have to use the top race from my previous headset (after painting it black of course). Even with the two negative things I mentioned, I still give this headset 5 stars and will more than likely purchase another in the future. ... show more

  • Good headset, watch the stack height
Color: Silver
This is a conventional headset, not cartidge bearings. they come apart and should be greased accordingly. The stack height was to much for the frame it went into. IT was noticably taller the one it replaced and the lock nut would not screw on. I modified the one I purchased to fit. All in all, a quality item. ... show more

  • Does the trick
Color: Silver
Does the trick for an old JIS standard. Bearings are of good quality, finish is nice. The reviewer who stated a JIS frame cup diameter is 30.2 is confused. A JIS frame cup is indeed 30.0. The difference between JIS and ISO is the fork crown ( JIS=27.0 and ISO=26.4). 30.2 frame cups are found on old Professional Campagnolo, Raleigh, and some older French and Italian bikes. The older French and Italian bikes were the only ones available with the 27.0 fork crown and a 30.2 frame cup. As far as being tall, yup it's very tall for a 1" headset. It's 42.5mm tall. Sizing a 1" headset can bit a real pain to get right. If you don't know how, let a good bike shop do it for you. This is a link to all the headset information you could every want or need. • Traditional threaded 1” headset with both 26.4 and 27.0mm fork crown.
Color: Silver
I purchased this headset to refurbish a Schwann Prologue frame-set purchased in the early 1990,s. The fork on that frame had a 27.0mm crown, rather than the more typical 26.4mm. This head-set comes with two crowns. It also had sealed bearings so the aluminum cups are not machined and have no races, you just drop in the bearing cassettes. Good design, good price, works perfectly. My only suggestion would be a more classic look with rounded exterior instead of the rather angular look. But function is paramount :) ... show more

  • update after about 5k miles
Color: Silver
Installed this about 200 miles ago on my Giant Team CFR road bike (circa 1998 frame year?). I needed to purchase a 5mm spacer, as the stock 10mm was too thick. YouTube has plenty of "how to" videos, including how to make your own headset removal and installation tools. So, for about $22 I made my own tools, and saved a boat load of money. This headset is very nicely finished and is soooo smooth. My old headset made my steering feel like it was ratcheted. Now, it's buttery smooth. update 1/2/2020 after 5k miles, this headset is as smooth as it was initially. Not as sexy as a Chris King, but is working great. ... show more

  • Smooth, but bearings not what I expected for from description.
Color: Black
This headset seems well-made, and I expect it to hold up well. The bearings roll smoothly, and the unit looks good installed. I removed a star because the description mentioned this thing uses sealed cartridge bearings. The bearings used here are basically nicer versions of the same ball-and-cage used on standard headsets, but with a rubber seal and a separate race that sits inside the cup. When I was getting this thing ready to install, I pulled one of the bearing assemblies apart with my fingernail. To put it back together, I had to make sure the rubber seal went back in correctly, as well as paying attention to the way the bearing cage went back in. A true sealed cartridge bearing should not be able to come apart so easily (if at all). Once installed, though, there's no way for this thing to come apart. ... show more
