  • Most Fun Metroidvania I've Played in Years
Immensely enjoyed this game. Game is beautiful, controls are responsive, level design is engaging, upgrades are satisfying, and gameplay just feels right. A huge breath of fresh air after Metroid Dread failed to impress so horribly. In my opinion, this is the best Metroidvania game since Metroid Prime 1 (or AM2R if I am counting non-licensed games). The game absolutely nailed exploration, as areas open up organically, and you never feel like you're on a pixel hunt to find where to go next. New abilities are spaced evenly and are a blast to use. The upgrades keep you feeling like you're progressing while offering freedom to change up how you tackle the game. Also, coming to this game after Metroid Dread, the gameplay was such a pleasure. It had all of the fluidity of Dread's movement, but with a control layout and world design that actually accommodated it. I'm not usually one for platformers--and this is definitely a platformer with little focus on combat--but movement was such a pleasure in this game to completely make up for the relative lack of combat. Be warned, though, that you will die. A lot. I died some 400 times on my first playthrough (there's a counter). Fortunately, deaths are never punishing and I never got very irritated from dying, except on a couple of occasions during escape sequences, where the autosaves are less generous. If your frustration bar is on the lower side, you might not enjoy this game as much as I did. ... show more

  • Not as polish as the sequel but still a very fun story!
If you’ve played to sequel prior to this, you will definitely notice all the improvements that were made from this like how the game is saved and some of the mechanics. You’ll want to play The Blind Forest first to understand some of the story intro and reflections in The Will of the Wisps. Ori is just an all around fun character to play as the maps are satisfyingly engaging. ... show more

  • I hate the game controls on Switch
I like the puzzle style of this game, but the controls just drive me nuts. I hate trying to make the same stupid jumps 20 to 50 times before I can move to the next step. Beyond annoying after a while. Gave up at about the 30% completion mark.
