PROS AT A GLANCE: Looks amazing, heavy plush fabric, seemingly durable construction, adjustable hood closure (drawstring), large hood size (surprisingly hard to find and THE main selling point for me!), optional face-guard offers additional warmth/protection. CONS AT A GLANCE: Not waterproof. It does run on the roomy side (one size fits all), which is a huge plus to me, but some people might not like that the extra room means the face guard isn't going to be snug against your face, depending on your individual size. MY SELECTED ITEM: Black FULL REVIEW: I've been browsing balaclavas forever and could never really decide on which one to take because I am incredibly picky and rather vain, when it comes down to it. I didn't want just a complete ski-mask style because, although they're very warm and offer full protection, they aren't quite so versatile when you're walking around in town and have to transition to looking presentable for work. Among other balaclavas closer to this style, the hoods were too tight-fitting around the head, which is not a look that I particularly like. With the Oldelf balaclava, you can have it be close-fitting like that if you like by tightening the drawstring, or you can have the option of leaving the drawstring loose and having a nice, big, roomy hood, which is my usual style preference. It's nice knowing I can go from my style preference to the warmer option easily if needed, without having the warmer (less stylish) option being my only choice. Being a female and not having a giant noggin, I can say that yes, the face guard is a bit loose to allow for different sizes to wear it. I personally don't mind this, and actually prefer it since it looks better (for me) and because when I walk to work when it's storming, I need to be able to then transition to my day job look without a problem, and this means not having all of my face makeup rubbed off by a tight-fitting ski mask or balaclava. I know this isn't going to be the same concern for most people, but for me, those are really huge selling points. Over all, I couldn't be happier with this purchase and will be coming back to buy one for my partner, as well (he has a huge head, so the big hood will be especially nice for him). We live in the Pacific Northwest about 30 minutes from the Canadian border, and while we don't always get huge snowfall here, when we do get a good snow, it's usually a doozy. Even when it's not snowing, our temperatures in the winter drop very low, so something that is versatile and stylish like this is exactly what we need for those bitter cold days. I don't personally mind that this isn't waterproof, since I'd be wearing different gear in a heavy rain anyway, but I figured I should point that out in case someone is looking for a balaclava that can withstand all weather conditions. This will definitely keep you warm and cozy in the winter wind and snow, but it's not going to keep you dry in a rainy downpour.

This is one of those products where the price is good enough to make up for any shortcomings. For $10 you're not going to be cold, and anything past that is just incidental. Incidentally, I don't like the branding on the side. Incidentally, I don't like that the part that covers your mouth is so loose. Incidentally. I didn't expect to be giving up the majority of my peripheral vision. But is my face/mouth/head cold when it is freezing outside? Heck no. I checked my product over for stains and poor stitching before wearing it which I do recommend everyone does, but mine was just fine. I was not entirely sure how this would be laid out exactly, but the pictures are accurate and this is essentially a single piece of thick, warm fleece stitched together with a skillful amount of wizardry. The high and unbroken cuff that sits around your face is *very* wide such that the front of my face is mostly open to the elements unless I bunch the loose fabric up inside the hood part behind my head. I feel like pictures showing this worn without the hood raised are employing this same technique, and if not, please do share your secrets with me. I wear this with a knit cap on also as there is so much space inside without one. I had worried it would be too tight for this, but it fits great and instead just keeps my head surrounded by warm air. The fabric at my shoulders and thus under my coat is a bit bulky for my taste, but as it takes the place of a warm scarf I'll allow it. In warmer times I wear a face mask, but as this should cover my nose and mouth sufficiently on public transit I expect it will make me look like less of a creep and more like a ninja during the dark winter months.

The only real complaint is that it definitely need it was striking material for the hoodie and for the face mask area because it's not stretchy enough to pull the foot back without ripping your face off or the mask properly. For the price, it works really well. I work in a freezer, and it keeps me warm. It is comfortable and breathable. But it is not beard friendly, at least for me.

Didn't know these were called balaclavas, all I knew was I needed something better than a hat, scarf, and ear muffs with all the cold winters we have been having. All those things took time to put on, were bulky and drafty. When I saw this it was what I really needed. This is a smooth fleece, the seams are well done, no loose threads or pulls. There was a slight chemical smell that is in all polyester, it came out once I ran it through the washing machine and dryer with some Wisk and dryer sheets. It came out without shrinking or seams opening, always a good thing. It isnt a super thick or heavy fleece, it is lightweight. Come the cold and wind, this holds in the heat from your body and breath, keeps your head, face, and ears, protected. The hood has a long "collar" that tucks well into a closed jacket. And the hood is very roomy, I tried it on with my hair up and down and this will still keep my hair somewhat presentable when I go to work. That may sound like a small thing, but it isnt. It is snug around the head when putting it on, but once it is on it is roomy and comfortably snug where needed. The face cover can be tucked down below the chin or pulled just about all the way up to cover the face. Drawstrings help keep it closed around the neck. I received this at a small discount in exchange for an honest review. Honestly, this is going to be great for the winters we have been having. Not bulky, easy to put on, will protect from the elements. That is what I needed and am very happy with the balaclava.

This Balaclava is great for the price. I used it to ride (my motorcycle) to work in 37F weather and it did a great job and not building condensation from my breath. It was a little too thick to fit nicely inside my helmet but I suspected that might be a problem before I bought it. Concerning the "gas" smell that other reviewers have mentioned, it is in fact there and can be pretty strong... I washed it twice and the smell is nearly non-existent now but if smelled closely you still get a hint of it. I deducted a star for the forward length of the hood. I have a large head (XXL helmet barely fits) and the hood will go clear over my face and cover my entire face so you need to adjust it accordingly. I'm not sure this is bad for everyone, but I am not a fan of having to be careful how far over my head my hood will go. The second deduction is for a combination of the gas smell, and the lack of any flaring on the bottom of it that helps to accommodate the flow to your shoulders. Most of the Balaclava's I have don't have this flaring except one nice one I bought (20 dollars more than this one). This has the feel of a scarf when I wear it which seems to be pretty common in this price range. PROS: It keeps my neck, face/head all really warm, better than the com-parables I have purchased. If it can keep my neck warm at 65mph down the freeway while it's 37 degrees out, it's doing a great job. Yes there are better ones out there, but they cost more. This is one to get if you want to spend less but still need a good product. +1 Star back from the 2 deducted for the low price point...
