Description

The research upon which this book is based shows overwhelmingly that people want satisfaction much more than they want balance. And yet, one of the dominant topics in the area of personal and professional development for the past twenty years has been work-life balance.Off Balance is more than just a book. It presents a system that Matthew Kelly uses with his Fortune 500 clients, his team, and himself to drive increasing levels of satisfaction both personally and professionally. He introduces us to the three philosophies of our age that are dragging us down. He teaches us how to cultivate energy so that we have plenty left for our passions when we are finished fulfilling our responsibilities. And finally, in five clear steps, he shows us how to use his Personal and Professional Satisfaction System to establish our priorities and honor them even when we feel pulled in a hundred different directions. The beautiful thing about satisfaction is that you know when you have it, and you know when you don't. Do you have it? Short, insightful, and life-changing, Off Balance gives us all the tools we need to go to sleep every night knowing who we are, what matters most, and that our lives make sense. • Terrific and helpful.
Another excellent Matthew Kelly book. I can’t imagine anyone who would not learn valuable life lessons from reading it. Highly recommended.

  • Prioritized!
This book, along with a couple of others I've read since the start of the new year, have truly been life changing! Because I have a very hectic schedule, and was recognizing at the close of 2012 that some changes were in order, I purchased this book for guidance in prioritizing. It did just that, and much more! I've been able to clear my plate of several long-term commitments in order to assess where my focus needs to be. I've also been able to develop new habits that may not be what I feel like doing, but are what is best. The seemingly elementary principal about the diffence between pleasure and satisfaction was life altering for me. I'm thankful for the excellent truths in this book and the strategies for maximizing life choices. ... show more

  • Reframe your relationship with your work
I appreciated the approach advocated toward thinking differently about your work and not having to find an unachievable ongoing balance but instead trying to create conditions that allow you to move through variations of intensity between the personal and professional with attention given to reflection and adjusting behavior with intention to be present what your situation requires from you in the moment. ... show more

  • I figured she would like as Matthew Kelly is one of our favorite authors
I bought one for my daughter in law. She has gone back to work after being a stay at home mom of three kids. She mentioned to me that she was trying to find a balance in her life. I saw the book on amazon and decided to send it to her. I figured she would like as Matthew Kelly is one of our favorite authors. Then I thought "why not read it myself so we could share our thoughts". Wow, it was a great mind blower. I'm retired and thought it would not apply to me, wrong, I've gotten so much from it. It is well worth reading. It seemed to start slow but then it really took off. ... show more

  • Didn't strike a chord too much with me
Eh, did not do much for me. I was disappointed. I read instead "168 Hours: You Have More Time Than You Think", which helped me a lot more. This was meh. I did not get anything from it that helped me. I am a working mother with a big career. Wasn't the book I was hoping for.

  • Changed my perspective and opened my mind
This book was everything it says it will be. I have provided over 10 copies (so far) and will continue to provide copies to small business owners that are looking to find satisfaction in their life. The focus is not on work/life balance, rather finding joy in all you do and being intentional about your decisions. The book has changed the way that my business partner and I approach our employee relationships to ensure they also find satisfaction both at home and at the office. One bleeds into the other. I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking to determine what "balance" means in their life. I could not be happier with my purchase. ... show more

  • Great reading and a great system too!
I've finished reading this book and taken a lot of notes, particularly about the system that Matthew proposes. I was excited just by reading the book about what may lay ahead, even more so when I work through his system. I would recommend this book to anyone, particularly in management (mid-level and senior/executive management) so that they may recognise what may be missing in their organisation and their people and develop strategies that may reinvigorate every aspect of the organisation and its people. A great read. ... show more
