Decided to try replacing this part myself vice paying the $1500 the VW dealer estimated. I'm glad I did. Remove the plastic shroud under the engine compartment 6 screws (T25 torx), unplug the old unit without damaging the plug (it has locking mechanisms that require a small flathead to manipulate), remove 4 screws (T30 torx) and the entire unit slides right out the bottom. Both fans on this assembly have improper immersion depth. The larger fan is offset by almost 2 cm leaving a large gap between the shroud and fan. This significantly reduces fan performance and even causes clearance issues. The smaller fan is not planer with the shroud. Close on one side, far on the other. Also, both fans are set crooked and have fans which are warped and do not spin true. Quality is NOT what you get here, despite the advertisement. ... show more

the fans work great, seem well balanced, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that in some pictures it shows the rubber flappers on the upper right side, and some pictures don't. My 2012 CC has the flappers but the fan I got didn't, so I just took the new fans of the housing and used my old housing with flappers and it went in perfect and works great, took about 10 extra minutes ... show more

    • Make sure both fans work before fixing transmission
Good price for a good product. After market but working good so far for a couple of months. If your transmission start giving you problems no shifting, check both fans are working because if not, the oil overheats. Dealer will charge thousands telling you is the transmission, but it was the fan. I am a mechanic. ... show more
