  • Fun starter instrument
Color: Black Pattern: Saxophone
The included 1.5 reed made it easier for a beginner like me to start making clear sound (most notes). I will most certainly graduate to a real saxophone, but this is a really satisfying way to get exposure.

  • easy to play
Color: Black/Green Pattern: Saxophone
It's loud as it played the sound of jazz. Reed #1.5 was unable to play G5 (maybe due to a defect but N165MPGN fixed the problem) ; Reed #2 plays C4 to G5 okay

  • Not electronic - Well made, but not a good deal
Color: White/Blue Pattern: Saxophone
Pro's: The sound on this is indeed very good, and the construction is well made for a plastic device. Lite weight. Con's: It has the look of an electronic woodwind, but it's not. It's a plastic sax/clarinet so it does use a real reed and such that just costs way too much for what you get. It has the appearance of a toy, not an instrument. If a kid or adult wants to get into a sax with a reed/mouthpiece to develop their armature and their playing skill then you have three options: 1) Pick up a $20 "practice sax" (or "pocket sax") that is basically a recorder (instrument) with a real reed and mouth piece that provides the saxophone sound (as the Nuvo does fine). Great for learning, and things like camping trips. Cheap and easy. 2) If you want to step it up and have something classier that wouldn't be embarrassing to be seen with, then get yourself an $80 Yamaha YVS-100 Venova. That's an instrument that wouldn't be embarrassing to be seen with, does everything this does, and is cheaper yet well made by a company with a huge history of making such plastic instruments. Classy, a better Nuvo than the Nuvo for less money. 3) Pick up a new $200 sax. It's cheap, bottom-end, but a real sax. You'd be better off buying one used that's a better/real brand, but grabbing a cheap Chinese one from Walmart ain't too bad... more than the Nuvo, but still better. 4) If you are looking for something electronic, you can find good MIDI woodwind instruments for $300 like a real Roland AE-01. You can use it with headphones, and your computer, and select different instruments sounds with professional Roland quality. 5) If you are looking for a cheap "digital woodwind" that would be much easier for a kid to learn on their own (no reed), you can get one for the same price as the Nuvo! With a Nuvo, if the kid actually can learn to play and appreciate the technique of a reed instrument then will quickly outgrow this "toy". In NO formulation, literally, is the Nuvo a better alternative than the four options above. ... show more

  • Well...
Color: Black/Green Pattern: Saxophone
I wanted one of these forever! I finally bought one with my Christmas money. Its nothing like a saxophone. The feel is completely different. Its harder to play than a sax too. Its definitely fun tho! Its more of a toy than a learning tool.

  • Worth all 88.00 dollars! Fun sized!
Color: Black/Blue Pattern: Saxophone
This is the most fun you can have for 88 dollars....and it’s the loudest fun you can have without amplification. Easy to hold- carry- play. Absolute joy. I was on the fence- I bought a Dood- I wish I had bought the jsax from the beginning. The Dood is fine- it just isn’t the jsax. I will say it might be a challenge for a larger person- I’m only 5’3 with small hands- so it’s fine for me- but larger people might be uncomfortable with the tiny size. You could easily throw this in a backpack- you could ride a bike with it and play in the park. Take it to the beach. Busk. Throw it in a go bag for the post apocalyptic world.... ... show more

  • So far so good
Color: Black/Green Pattern: Saxophone
Played sax as a kid 50 years ago, as I recall was pretty good. Rec'd the jsax a day before it was promised and in good condition. I got the jsax 2.0 but got a version without the o ring grease. I am guessing that Nuvo originally sent the jsax without the grease and now provide because it is needed. I will say that I emailed Nuvo's North American contact asking what grease I should use and got a response the same night well after office hours...very impressed. In any case, so far sound like a goose that is being tortured but have confidence I will get the hang of it with practice. I am happy that I can reintroduce myself to sax before spending hundreds of dollars on a new or used sax. Admittedly, this will take more practice than I thought so again am glad I didn't spend a ton of money until I know I am fully committed to purchase a real saxophone. ... show more
