  • Not as Portable as You Might Think but Very Fun and Intuitive
Style: Circuit Tracks
Genuinely wish this product had Bluetooth Midi/Audio functionality. It's portable but I find myself wishing I could use AirPods with it. As it is now I don't look forward to the idea of bringing around a wired pair of headphones when I just wanna jam to something, so I find myself never fully utilizing the internal battery. I feel it was a bit of a missed opportunity to release this without Bluetooth, but even so I'm still glad that the Circuit Tracks has improved on the original in a number of ways. As for any other criticisms I would say the 3.5mm sockets are also a bit loose unfortunately. The ability to mix external gear into the sequencer and now the effects section though is a nice touch. I'm also sooooooo glad they labeled the knobs. Having some labels is better than none in my opinion and it at least gives sound designers something to adhere to. The expanded step sequencer from 16-32 steps is also nice, new functions like "Mutate" which helps me find different potential patterns, the sdcard slot for loading up different sound packs, and the MIDI templates which are great feature for whenever you wish to control external gear but maybe it's a bit inconvenient or far from your setup. Overall making music has never been easier for me. Maybe the only other thing I would wish from this device is the ability to multi track record all the different parts from the sequencer into my computer. I find myself using the Circuit Tracks with a hybrid approach and not a fully standalone unit, so I still need to record into a DAW. As it is now I'm only aware of needing to mute and un-mute tracks to record the different parts. The ability to do it all once if it were possible would be kinda cool though, and make things a lot more efficient so that I could start arranging immediately. Other than that I'm really curious about any of the future updates. Novation was amazing with all the updates done to the original and so hopefully we could still see the same here as well. It's a huge reason why I felt confident going with Novation for my latest purchase. So yeah that said it's definitely worth it I think but as with anything make sure you know what you're getting, and keep your expectations in check. ... show more

  • I have a hard time not giving it a 5
Style: Circuit Rhythm
Is it the best thing I've ever played with? No. It it the worst? Absolutely not. Does it meet all my needs? No. Does anything else? Not really. I wish I could have longer samples and I kind of wish I could have more effects. Sometimes it feels like it's not enough, but for the price, it's pretty good. It fits a niche that I've been looking for between my APC40 and POs. It's portable, pretty freakin' easy to use, and although I usually have other stuff hooked up to it, I don't need to. I only do, because after months, I'm still playing with it and what it can do and how it can fit in or replace other things. I just really wish I could do some longer slices and different effects. ... show more

  • The circuit series are 2 half baked products instead of 1 good one - Ignore the hype
Style: Circuit Tracks
This is one of the most disappointing pieces of music gear I've ever purchased. I will be returning it. Let's start with the good, the idea of a no screen work flow is great, and Novation did that very well with the original Circuit, but they are riding that fame to the next generation with little improvement to show for it. The hardware design is nice, albeit a bit cheap to have a plastic top, and I am a fan of the rechargeable battery design, even if its only 4 hours long. Now here's why no one should bother buying this. Is this a toy or a tool? Well, its not a toy... but it is a bad tool. It's a lot of fun for about an hour or so but the second you want to do something useful, everything about the system falls apart and your staring at youtube videos trying to find a clunky work around. The Novation Circuit tag line should be "there's a work around for that". We are sitting in a golden age of grooveboxes and yet the Circuit Tracks has a 10 year old synth engine, requires a computer for any synth modeling, and only has TWO available synth tracks and you can't change those sounds in different clips within a project. In a project, you are forever married to just two sounds with no changes. Oh but there's two midi tracks? No, there are FIVE midi tracks, two of which don't actually have any functionality without external synths. There's no reason you couldn't have four synth tracks here EXCEPT for the fact that Novation would have had to build something new and not just re-shell the original circuits brain into a new box (lazy). But lets make a song anyways... oh wait, your patterns have to chain in order, even the original circuit did this better, but there is a work around! You can use the "new" scenes function... that also triggers in order, but you can build the scene from clips out of order, you just have to plan ahead. And THAT is where all the "amazing workflow" gets flushed right down the toilet. For everything they did right in the work flow, they break it with really bad work arounds for their lazy engine porting. On to the drums, the drums are monophonic 1 shots that novation does NOT want to be played like notes, because that would eat the bottom line of the equally pitiful Circuit Rhythm. I didn't say CAN'T be... because there is a tedious and horrible work around where you can manually tune the one shots via the velocity page (why is it there? I'm betting that it was an oversight). So it's obviously possible for Novation to let us play the samples on a musical scale, they chose NOT to allow us to do something so useful. Also, those four drums tracks, they are all the same midi channel, so they aren't actually tracks, they are one drum grid that allows you to mute and fx four groups. The drums section of the Circuit system is arguably more limited than most basic drum machines, even the Volca sample lets you have polyphonic samples and playable scale (after a firmware upgrade). So what happened? Well, I think this product got hyped to the moon. Then Novation dumped a ton of money into youtubers and reviews (I'm looking at you Ricky Tines... you know this is a bad product) and was able to sway opinions because it does LOOK slick. But what it really is is two half baked Circuits that even when put together ($800) you still don't get a professional tool. It's just a pretty but shallow system that fails where it counts most. ... show more

  • It's not a direct sampler I thought I could use this as a mpc with direct recording
Style: Circuit Tracks
It didn't have line in direct recording which is like having a camera with no way to take a picture with no film
