  • So fun
Incredibly fun piece of gear

  • Product arrived unsealed
I was expecting to receive a brand-new product properly sealed, but it arrived without any security seal. This raises concerns since there’s no way to be sure if it’s original or if it had been opened before delivery. For the price paid, I expected much more care. The delivery was fast, but the lack of a seal left a very bad impression. ... show more

  • creativity machine
incredible machine, but realize that its shortcomings are kind of part of the “TE charm” I guess. The sequencer and ability to manipulate and mangle samples is not as deep as say the Digitakt, nor does it have as many features as the MPC — but what it lacks in those departments it makes up for it, at least for me, in sheer spontaneity and creativity. My music output has tripled and I love sketching out ideas with this thing. wonderful all in one groovebox, synth, drum machine, sequencer, and I imagine will only get better as new features are added with firmware updates. ... show more

  • Teenage engineering has a winner
If you’re interested in the TE gear, you have the money, this is the one to get. More flexible and fun than most of the other stuff. I own almost all of it although not any of the pocket operators… desk.. or modular stuff. I own op1 og, op1f, opz (with double triggers and bend), ep-133, all of the field kit (tp-7, tx-6, cm-15) and even the headphones. Everything they’ve put out that I’ve bought I’ve had to justify in my mind…. Pricy, value compared to other products. It always comes up a little short if I directly compare but there’s just something about them that makes me covet them and love them. The only one that’s been closest to justified outside of how unique they are is this one. If you buy anything from TE - try the op-xy. If you do a lot of music production (and have some cash) tx-6 is the next most valuable. If you want some fun at lower cost - ep-133 or any of the PO. About me - I have a lot of nice synths (ob6, obx8, prophet rev2, moog subsequent 37, take5, some smaller guys like dreadbox syphon, Minitaur. I own a lot of groove boxes and midi controllers (Hapax, Deluge, mpc live, polyend play, electron syntakt, elektron rytm mkii, dirtywave m8). Out of all those purchases if I had to liquidate it all tomorrow the few things I’d fight to keep would be this one (op-xy) and Deluge. Tier 2 would probably be tx-6, m8, rytm mkii. ... show more

  • Sent return unit instead of brand new one
I was clearly sent a returned unit as it has signs of being opened before and used. For this money I dont feel comfortable about it…

  • Not their best but it’s still fun
OP-XY is cool but lacks the innovation and fun of the OP-1F(F) and OP-Z. For the money, the OP-Z is a much better option and very close in workflow and available options (OP-Z has mode in some cases.). If you don’t care about costs (frankly, I don’t much myself), I still can’t justify the OP-XY when I like the OP-Z just as well. Too many options available to not be fully satisfied with a purchase. Something about this one is just missing like the animated UI of the OP-1 with the dual arp and fun FX graphics, and the things like the DMX light sequencing and video animations of the OP-Z… this one could have been really special but oh well. Things like no mod matrix and one LFO are far too limiting when you have Digitone II or Analog Four for half the price. Cheers! And I’ll always love TE, this one just wasn’t a home run in my opinion. ... show more

  • Lives up to high expectations
I bought this with some trepidation, as it is of course quite expensive and would need to be excellent to justify the cost. Well, it's excellent on basically every front. Extremely portable, sampler that encourages you to record and 'play' any sound, super long battery life, convenient connections that allow it to talk to anything – modular synths, computers, microphones, MIDI keyboards. The onboard synth and drum sounds are good, but it is the performance effects (punch in, tape, step components) that really make it super fun and engaging. It takes time to get good at, like any instrument. I've bought and re-sold an OP-Z and OP-1, but I've now had the OP-XY for 6 months and can say it's a keeper. Sell some of your other gear to scoop this one, it's a modern classic. ... show more

  • Fantastic Groovebox/Synth/Sampler!
I’m absolutely blown away with the capabilities of this device. Coming from the Elektron workflow I was pretty set in what I thought was the best sequencer workflow around. But what TE has created here completely gels with me in a way that no other piece of gear has. I’m constantly creating song after song without much friction at all. There’s a lot of innovation packed into this device and I can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking for a super portable fully featured groovebox. ... show more
