Description

NOIR CITY, the acclaimed magazine of the Film Noir Foundation, now available in print! Issue 44 investigates noir from an array of different perspectives and styles. Jake Hinkson guides readers through the fascinating world of Southern Gothic Noir, highlighting its literary and cinematic origins, as well as the Hollywood trends it has encompassed over the last century. Also in this issue: Paul Parcellin tributes the elevator operators who often go overlooked in crime films; Lynsey Ford details the storied and fascinating arc of Peter Lorre’s career once he arrived in Hollywood; Danilo Castro steers things in a different direction with his profile on legendary stunt driver Bill Hickman; Rachel Walther revisits the seamy, sensational B-movies produced by Sam Katzman in the 1940s and 50s; Oren Shai shines a light on the forgotten noir legacy of actor/director Robert Hossein; Christian Gutierrez debates whether Los hermanos del Hierro is a legitimate noir; and editor-in-chief Imogen Sara Smith praises the 2018 thriller Ash Is Purest White. Plus film reviews, a themed crossword puzzle, and more. Read more

  • NOIR MAGAZINE, Print Version, Issue #44
Format: Paperback
To us aficionados around the world, the "print" version of NOIR MAGAZINE is like an addendum to a Cinema "Bible" every 6 months (OK, I am exaggerating). NOIR is defined as the cinematography period between 1940 and 1950, and based its ideas and techniques on the despair and melancholy of the years around WWII. NOIR magazine brings back to memory the Greats of Noir and catalogs, researches, and analyzes noir issues on a thematic basis. I can safely declare that there is Nothing Like It! ... show more
