    • Flimsy charger port
The charger's plug (that goes into the scooter) broke off inside of the scooter and had to be replaced. Now each time it's unplugged/plugged in, it feels sort of cheap and flimsy and there's a constant fear of it happening again. The battery also seems to lose capacity surprisingly fast over time. Got these charged a dozen different times by now, and went from averaging ~23 miles/charge to roughly 19-20 miles per charge so far. It definitely starts slowing down sooner than expected now, and will have a lower max speed for longer before it fully dies. It has a folding handle/neck for easier storage, but it isn't light enough to really comfortably have to lug around due to the bulk of it. The board length is long enough that it won't go over speed bumps without grinding into them, but it's at least comfortable to stand on. Was hoping this could make for a decent commuter option for the summer, but it isn't as portable as hoped, and the lowering battery capacity has me worried how long it might last. But it works fine enough for semi-short distances in flat areas, but you also might not want to leave it locked out of your sight. Since there's nothing preventing someone from just turning it on, it's possible for someone to mess with it or try to purposely drain the battery. There are some options in the app to mess with it, but I'm not the biggest fan of needing to constantly have a phone on/around to get it to work to its full capabilities. ... show more

    • Nice scooter, zero warranty support
I bought two of these for my kids for Christmas and one had a computer malfunction immediately. The error message says the battery is overheating even though it’s never been used. We’ve done everything we can to reset it but nothing fixes it. I’ve reached out to NIU several times because it’s under warranty, but no one writes me back, and they don’t have a US phone number to call for support. What’s the point of having a warranty if the company won’t respond or do anything to help? Now I’m uncomfortable buying a replacement because it’s clear that if I need to contact them for a warranty issue in the future they’re not going to help. Unfortunately, my son loves it and wants another, so I feel like I have no choice but to buy an expensive scooter with no warranty. I also paid extra for an extended protection plan, but it doesn’t kick into effect until the manufacturer’s warranty is over, so it’s worthless. As far as the scooters themselves, they are larger than I expected and are very sturdy. My lucky son (the one with a working Christmas gift) loves it and has been riding it all around town. It’s quiet, powerful, and folds up easily. I don’t think it will go 25 miles on one charge like it claims, but we haven’t tested that fully. I would rate these 5/5 if the company stood behind its product. Unfortunately that’s not the case. If I were to do this all over I would stay away from the NIU brand at all costs. ... show more

    • A Well-Made, Sleek, Super-Fun Scooter
We’ve had this scooter (sport version) for a little while now, and we are quite impressed with it. We are really enjoying riding it. When we got our first scooter I thought we would only use it to ride around our neighborhood and to a park that's two blocks from our house, but that’s not what happened. We are riding our scooters to a nearby shopping center that's a little over a mile from our house, and to many other nearby places too. We really do like riding this scooter and our other scooters. They really are a lot of fun to ride. We’ve ridden this particular scooter maybe 10 times now for a total of about 60 miles, and so far it has worked without an issue of any kind. It’s feels very solid when you’re riding it, and it’s super easy to control and drive/maneuver. I am 6’2” tall and size-wise this scooter works just fine for me. It doesn’t feel too small for me. So, given that I’m on the tall side, this scooter should work for just about anybody. I weigh 240 pounds and this scooter has handled my weight without any problems. It gets me up to the 17 MPH limit on level pavement no problem. Uphill is a different story though. However, my daughter weighs 140 pounds and with her weight she quickly hits the 17 MPH limit even when going up a bit of an incline. The scooter’s battery capacity is quite good. On a full charge my daughter can generally travel about 20 miles or so. Which I think is a pretty decent range. Especially since we will never use it to travel that far in a single day. I think that overall this is an excellent electric scooter that’s worth its price tag. Especially when you consider the fact that a comparable Segway scooter is far more expensive. This scooter is designed and built well, which makes it a pleasure to ride. And while this scooter isn’t a 35 MPH speed demon, it does go fast enough to make it really fun to ride.
