The Nisorpa graphite crucible contains 45% of C, 26% of AL2O3, 23% of SIC and 6% of SIO2 which has a stable chemical properties. The graphite crucible is more durable than the ordinary crucibles. I have heard so many stories about clay crucibles breaking on the first pour because they were not "prepped properly" with a complicated stepped-heating regiment. When I read that silicon carbide crucibles were tougher and not as sensitive to temperature changes, I bought this silicon carbide crucible and used it without any pre-heating at all. It showed no damage by it's initial heating, and melted the aluminum wonderfully. Afterwards, the inside cleaned out easily, (no cooled aluminum stuck to the walls). Only time will tell how long it will last, but at this time I'm excited about this item. ... show more

The first photo is out of the box. Second photo is after incremental firing up to 2200°. These appear to me to be plain clay crucibles, like terra-cotta, that had some graphite added to the surface when it was tacky. Something tells me these won’t hold up, but I will give it a try nonetheless.
