  • Really works!
We are redoing our huge yard for grass and didnt want to rent a big piece of machinery, these are awesome! They do seem to be made for larger feet but once you get the motion right, pretty easy to use. Love!

  • Works better than expected, even on clay.
My yard is mostly heavy clay, which makes landscaping a challenge. I borrowed a pair of aerator shoes a few years ago but the spikes were not sharp enough to penetrate and I ended up just walking on top of the clay. This heavy duty pair works much better. At first, I had quite a bit of trouble with the straps. Threading them per the included instructions does not work... the clip will not close. Then I read a review from someone who had the same problem and provided a pic of another way to thread them. That worked a little better, the clip would close with difficulty, but it would not stay closed. Then I tried threading up from the bottom of the middle slot only, pulling the strap outward without threading back down into the other slot, and closing the clip on top of it. That worked for two of the straps but did not hold reliably for all of them. In the end, I gave up on the clips and simply threaded the straps through both slots without using the clips at all. Though less convenient to get them on and off, this way held securely during use. The instructions and some of the other reviews advised using with boots rather than shoes so that the straps didn't irritate the fronts of the ankles. This would also probably improve the fit, but I did not have any boots on hand and so I used sneakers with the ankle strap crossed over the padded tongue of my shoe, and that worked well enough to prevent irritation. For my size 8 women's shoes I found these to be a little too large. By adjusting the ankle strap as short/tight as possible, I was able to get a fairly stable fit, though the toe strap adjusted as tightly as possible was still too loose for these to be as stable as I'm sure they are intended to be. After the fact, I realized that there is an adjustment on the bottom to reduce the width of the toe strap anchors and so the next time I use them I will probably benefit from the adjusted fit. The instructions should mention this adjustment but they don't. Once I got them on, I was surprised how easily they slip down into the hard clay of my yard and back out again. Walking, though very strenuous, was not nearly as difficult as I thought it might be and I was able to aerate my whole yard in less than half an hour. There is a bit of a learning curve and trying to pivot quickly as you normally would when walking back and forth will land you on the ground. You have to get used to fully picking your feet up with each step. Not hard to do, just be mindful and go slow-ish. And it definitely helps to do this a day or so after a good rain. I tested these over clay and grass and mulch and they worked well over it all. Surprisingly, dirt/clay/mud does not build up on the spikes very much at all so there is no stopping to clean them off mid-use. Once finished, a quick spray of the hose cleans them up well before putting them away. Included in the box is a spare nail, along with the tool needed to safely replace it. ... show more

  • Lawn Aerator Shoes for Yard Grass
These aerator strap on to your shoes are good for what they are but you need to use them gently to avoid breaking any of the spikes that are attached to the plastic. I can see these becoming brittle over time but only time will confirm that. When I tried them on and walked, you need to move slow and deliberately to ensure you do not put pressure on the spikes too much or bend them in any way. Walk like a robot essentially flat footed. This was slow and methodical process but after time they really do work. The spikes are sharp and pretty easy to use if you use them correctly. For personal use on a smaller yard these are great, definitely would not recommend for anything larger than an eighth of an acre of land, would be great for a small garden or yard like I have. They are easy to store but, I live in AZ so im skeptical they will not become brittle by the next summer. Overall, I do like these aerator strap on your shoes for my needs. I only gave 4 stars because I can see many people being frustrated by its lack of strength. The $25 asking price is too much for me, should be closer to $15-20 at most for what you are getting but thats just my opinion. ... show more

  • Product is uncomfortable but works well
It definitely was a good product. It did what it needed to do, but just be aware that it does cause a lot of friction on your front ankle part of your leg. I would recommend wearing a pair of thick socks when using this product or high top shoes.

  • Sucky straps on simple spikes
I was trepidatious about these, I have a tractor pulled aerator but can't easily take it to a smaller yard to use there. These things aren't recommended as their "nails" squishing into the soil compacts it more. Whereas machine aerators have open holes and pull plugs out, dropping them onto the top surface, actually removing material. As you can see in the picture though, even though it hasn't rained here for over a week, these did actually break up the soil and move some up. Plus they actually do make holes, albeit only a small size worth. I traversed across thicker grass over to this muddier patch where it produced visible results. The front strap was too long to fully tighten over my steel toed boots, that part is designed poorly and would not work well for women's shoes at all. It also appears riveted in a non-adjustable manner. The strap clasps are also VERY snug, not closing entirely, which doesn't impede use, but is annoying. There's a spare "nail" included along with a tool to insert one, if one pops out. Would I recommend these strap on aerators? Sure. ... show more
