  • Mixed Bag
I grew up with a NES, and SNES. Played Sega too but never owned one. So as an old school gamer I was really stoked for the release of two classic Disney games! Unfortunately this is a mixed release that misses more than it hits. What do I mean? Well let's review both games and go through the hits and misses. Aladdin: This game starts off the hits with including 6 versions of the game! Also a lot of nice extras you can watch to fill out the behind the scenes stuff. The music is spot on and had me humming along while I played. It also includes a soundtrack. Even if you're not a fan of "retro hard" video games, you get a rewind feature. So the game is vey forgiving. And that's it for the good stuff. Unfortunately the "misses" are more plentiful. The 6 versions you get are, the Sega Genesis version, "final cut' version, Demo version, Japanese version, Gameboy, and Gameboy color version. Of all these, the Sega version is nice, and if you want to play an uglier version of it the Gameboy is included as well. But the final cut, demo, Japanese, and a redundant second Gameboy version are pointless. And where in the world is the SNES version? I'm sure the fact it was published by Capcom kept it off here, but without it there is no point bothering with this version. That alone kills this for me. Aladdin: C- The Lion King: This game is notoriously hard. If you do research on it you'll find Disney told the designers to make the game so hard it couldn't be rented and beat. Make for more sales. While that is sorry, I still feel a lot of nostalgia for this game. You get the SNES version, Sega, Japanese, Gameboy and GB Color versions Add in the rewind feature and you should be able to complete this one. Good music and graphics as well. And now to the misses. These are a lot less irritating than the Aladdin one. You get both SNES and Sega versions which is great. It does have bonus features in it, but they are pretty sparse. Overall though a better include than Aladdin. Lion King: B+ Overall though I would have to say skip this one. While it is a nice beginning of a package for these classic games, it's just not enough. And for $30? Too expensive for such little content. If they had included the SNES version of Aladdin what would I be rating this? I don't know. But I could justify the price a lot more than what's included. I say pass on this one Final Rating: D+ ... show more

  • Nostalgic and Artistic!
These games are everything I remember; fantastical animation for it's time (and comparatively, even today) hard to beat, and fun music that brings back amazing memories of VHS and sega times! It transfers nicely to the switch, and the controls are unexplained but not necessary to have a tutorial (hold down to roll Simba, jump with B, etc). And of course, just as FREAKING DIFFICULT to advance. The switch conversion of these games feature a "Museum" with three major parts: 1) videos-where you can watch videos on how the Disney animators helped create the games into 'playable cartoons', and on the games creation in general. 2) Game art(Aladdin Only)- the specifics of how animators drew the mechanics in early stages of the game. 3) Movie art- color schemes of character design and early art of the movie's production. It also has a "Soundtrack" feature where you can listen to the 8-bit styled songs featured in the games. Overall, this was probably one of the best purchases I could have made for the switch, because not onl does it bring me the beloved games to modern day, but it also has an unexpected amount of info on the art and design that anyone can appreciate! I will probably be stuck on level two just like I was all those years ago, but I couldn't be happier with this purchase. ... show more

  • hard to switch the games
The first game that comes on is Aladdin. It was a cute game though hard for me to jump fast when this grandma needed to, but I am no expert! I enjoyed the music the most while playing. I wanted to try the Lion King game and was thinking it wan't even there it took me forever to find it and It took me a while to switch back as well. I may have it in the beginning mode where you can pick one or the other. This many have been used and saved on the Aladdin game which makes sense why it came up the way it did. Knowing that it was still tricky to switch back and forth.. or rather exit one game so you could get to into the other one. The Lion King was cute and like the Aladdin game there are several games to play from the Movie. One him catching a butterfly as a cub with his cute ROAR!, another as a grown lion and another in the avalanche & chaos of the running herd when his father dies. I only played the cub one and it was very cute. Alas this old Grandma couldn't get very far but it was fun playing with and hopefully my grandkids will think so too. ... show more

  • Small game screen but super fun
I love that they made these games for the switch! The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because like someone else mentioned the game itself is very small on the screen, it’s better to play it handheld than hook it up to the tv. I’m okay with that though, Aladdin has a bigger game screen and the lion king is very small but both are original to the Sega games I played as a kid. ... show more

  • Know What You're Buying
An excellent modern remake of 16 bit classics. A big highlight though is to know what you're buying. A lot of other reviews here seem to be complaining they thought it had the SNES Aladdin, but it has the Genesis version. Seeing as how the Genesis is the definitive version for this game, and that even the original developers for the SNES version preferred it to their own (SNES has no sword), I think that's a fair choice to include. Other reviews don't seem to like the scaling options, complaining they look pixilated. They're originally 240p content from 16 bit consoles, of course they are pixilated. That's kind of the point.... That being said, the game does offer a nice variety of scaling options, and borders that can be turned on or off. This is an excellent collection, so long as you know what you're actually buying. ... show more
