Frequently asked questions

The New Balance Minimus TR V1 is a versatile cross-training shoe designed for a variety of activities, including weightlifting, agility workouts, and general gym training. Its minimalistic design and supportive features make it suitable for crossfit and other high-intensity interval training (HIIT) exercises as well.

The New Balance Minimus TR V1 offers moderate arch support with its minimalist design, which encourages a more natural foot position. However, for those requiring specialized or higher arch support, it's recommended to try the shoes prior to purchase or consider custom orthotic inserts if necessary.

While the Minimus TR V1 can be used for short runs and sprints as part of a cross-training workout, it is not primarily designed as a running shoe. For long-distance running, it's better to choose a shoe specifically designed for that purpose.

To clean your New Balance Minimus TR V1 shoes, remove excess dirt with a brush or cloth, create a mixture of mild soap and water, gently scrub the shoes, rinse with a damp cloth, and air dry. Avoid putting them in the washing machine or dryer as that can damage the materials.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

Overall, customers find this shoe to be stylish and suitable for gym workouts, yet many report that it tends to run small with a notably tight and uncomfortable toe box. Although the shoes are praised for their appearance, the comfort level and fit seem to be inconsistent with previous models and buyers recommend sizing up.

Pros

  • 😊 Some users find the shoes very comfortable and light.
  • 👟 Good for gym training according to some reviews.
  • 👀 Attractive design is frequently complimented.

Cons

  • 👣 Many customers report the shoes run small, suggesting to size up.
  • ✖️ The tight and stiff toe box causes discomfort for several users.
  • 🔗 Lack of heel support and discomfort experienced by some.
  • ⚒️ Not as flexible or supportive as previous models, and the sole quality has been questioned.

Should I Buy It?

If you are looking for an attractive, lightweight gym shoe and are prepared to potentially size up for a better fit, this could be a good choice. However, if you are seeking substantial support, flexibility, and comfort—especially in the toe area—it might be wise to consider other options or try these on in a store first.

  • Exactly what I've been looking for! But Amazon screwed up
This shoe is exactly what I've been looking for. I used to run in Brooks Green Silence and then another minimalist asics shoe about 8 years ago. But were sadly discontinued and after running out of ebay options, I started looking for a new shoe that fit my needs. This is it. Great minimalist shoe. Run small and narrow so keep that in mind. That said, I paid for a brand new pair of shoes from the 'zon and ended up with a pair that had clearly been worn before, were tied, and covered in hair. So that was pretty disappointing. I thought about returning them, but I needed them on the day they were delivered so I had no choice but to keep them. Wish I could get a partial discount or something. Anyway, Bizarre experience for an Amazon purchase. ... show more

  • Very good
Thankful for the reviews letting me know these are slightly on the smaller side. I’m mostly an 8.5, but sometimes a 9. I went with the 9 and they will work. Could have done a 9.5. Since I’m only wearing them for a couple hours at a time it’s not an issue. Very good shoe! Love the style, weight, and larger toe box. ... show more

  • I was so excited for this shoe
I usually wear an 8.5 wide shoe and sometimes an 8 in sandals. In New Balance shoes I wear a 9.5 wide, so that's what I ordered in the Minimus. It is advertised as having a wide toe box, seemingly as a more barefoot shoe. I tried them on and they are way too tight. The shoe is slightly shorter than my other 9.5 wide NBs, and way more narrow. The difference is widths looks greater than the difference between a regular width shoe and a wide width shoe. If I was to order them again, I would probably have gone with a 10.5 to be safe, but I'm sure the width would still be an issue. Also the tongue is too big, weird, and sewn down halfway up the shoe. The way the toe box is wider doesnt really align with where my feet need to them to be wider, and the midsole area is very tight around my arch. It doesn't have a pull loop on the back of the shoe. And the outsole is mesh but with zero stretch so that doesn't help with the width issue either. I was so disappointed, as there's nothing I did like about this shoe. I know this is an older style, but I wanted to make sure others know since the shoe is still available here. I've already sent mine back. ... show more

  • Comfort Extraordinaire!
I absolutely love my New Balance women’s Minimus black (trainers ?) tennis shoes! They’re like walking on air and they’re so cute!!! I had to wait two weeks for them, but it was oh so worth it! I’d do it again in a heartbeat! I very highly recommend them!

  • Runs small and with a large heel tab
I ordered these to replace an earlier version of Minimus (2018) which I loved. However, New Balance has altered the design significantly over the past 6 years. The heel pull tab is tall and put pressure on my Achilles. Plus, although I ordered up 1/2 size, and Wide, these were still tight in both the midfoot and forefoot. I liked the shape and the zero drop, but I had to return them due to the fit. ... show more

  • Cute shoe, not comfortable
This is a very attractive shoe in my opinion, however the most uncomfortable shoe I’ve purchased to date. There’s no support and they’re a bit ‘hard’. I’ve purchased a pair of New Balance Minimus previously (2 years ago) and LOVED THEM! They were comfortable, flexible, waxy to machine wash, and fit like a sock. I expected this shoe to reflect the same and it did not. It’s all looks. ... show more

  • Love the shoe
Love these shoes and I ordered a half size up as was recommended. The only complaint is they seem slightly yellowed

  • Great for training but run very small
This is a very comfortable shoe for gym workouts. They are serious when they say it runs small. I normally wear a 10 wide and ordered a 10-1/2 wide. They are almost too short but still comfortable. I like them so much I ordered a second pair.
