Excellent shoe. Great cushioning, as well as stabilization. I wear a 6E width, since I need a lot of toe room due to a bunion. These give me plenty of room. They are very comfortable for walking outdoors, as well as for running on the treadmill. I wore the 1540 v3 (and, before that, the v2) for years. I do not like the 1540 v4. If you liked the 1540 V3, you will probably like these a lot, as I do. ... show more

These are higher quality materials and construction than overseas built models. Great arch support and wider forefoot area. Great for all day long distance walking and running. I wish all of my footwear felt like these. Pricey but you get what you pay for.

Sole Separating After Less Than 2 Months – Very Disappointed with the Quality I purchased these New Balance 990v6 with high expectations because I previously owned a pair of 990s that were excellent. My first pair lasted a long time and had outstanding comfort and build quality, which is why I didn’t hesitate to buy another pair. Unfortunately, this second pair has been a huge disappointment. After less than two months of normal use, the sole has already started separating from the shoe (see photos). These shoes have only been used casually for walking and everyday wear — no intense workouts or unusual conditions. Considering that the 990v6 is one of the most expensive sneakers in New Balance’s lineup, this level of durability is simply unacceptable. At this price point, customers expect premium construction and long-lasting quality, not structural issues within weeks. What makes this even more frustrating is that my previous pair performed perfectly, so this appears to be either a manufacturing defect or a serious quality control issue. I truly hope New Balance or Amazon can address this, because this experience does not reflect the reputation that the 990 series is known for.     • Some notable observations about the NB 990

I had these shoes for just ten years inured before I decided they are the best running shoes I have ever had by FAR. Here are some observations. The quality of the materials is excellent, perhaps other than the shoe laces that are just standard. The fit, I wear an 11.5 wide was very nice. I would say they may run slightly large, and by that I mean length, not width. At any rate they are an excellent fit. However the premium part of these shoes for me is the density of the sole. Often shoes are described as walking on clouds but to me that means overly soft, these shoes have a firmness and give combination that is extremely comfortable for me. I’m shocked at how good they feel. One small note just to be fair, the insoles in these are suprizingly minimal. I’ll probably replace them with something else. Also the drop, that’s the difference in the height of the heel and the forefoot feels like 0 which I like a lot, some running shoes have a huge drop and feel like you are walking downhill. I like these much better. Hope this helps. Oh one more thing, they are expensive but I’m sure I’ll get enough wear out of their quality to make up for the cost. ... show more
