  • Love these training shoes
These New Balance 623 trainers have been a life saver for me. I use custom orthotics and also use motion control running shoes for walking but my exercise regiment is heavy duty aerobic activity with much lateral movement. I caused some physical damage using the motion control shoes for aerobics till I was finally told what I needed - cross trainers. I got the grey suede ones and now my exercise activity has a new energy level increased greatly and the lateral movement is something I can really get into now. These shoes provide excellent support for the lateral movement. I must admit I cannot speak for their arch support since I do use custom orthotics but these trainers allow me to not always use the motion control shoes. These 623s provide comfort and really feel great. I wear them around the house and for daily activity along with when exercising. I only need to return to the motion control shoes when I will be doing miles of walking at a time and that is due to my severe over pronation. I have very wide feet and got these in 15 4E and they honeslty provide no discomfort at all and feel excellent. I did try this style in leather and found that they did not fit as well as the suede but again I feel it is due to the size of my feet along with my foot conditions. So my final consensus are that these trainers provide excellent comfort and support and make exercising a true pleasure. I also find the style and look of them very stylish and attractive. They look great with jeans, shorts and even casual pants. I will definitely be buying more of these trainers in different color suede and this will be the only shoe I use for exercise. Very grateful to New Balance. These trainers provide me with all I need and now I can exercise without worrying of getting any physical damage. ... show more

  • Well made, feels good after short break in.
As the user of both the MW813 and the Men's 623 I can say that the 623 is a well made shoe comparable to the 813, except that the toe box is more pointed, similar to a conventional shoe, while the 813 is a much rounder and wider box, almost orthopedic in shape. Also, the 623 is wider in in the waist in the same specified width. Feeling for me is a little sloppy in the EE width. I am an E width which is extremely hard to find. And in almost any shoe the D width is too narrow for me. The sole has great grab for paved and hard surfaces and hard packed trails, with lots of little compartments that help with grip, but also pick up small stones and dirt. If you run or walk on unfinished roads or trails, be sure to remove the shoes and clean the soles before going in the house. Otherwise you may have little dirt pellets everywhere. The upper is great, made from the same combination of leather, faux leather and plastic parts as most other athletic shoes these days. Heel pocket is well formed with no slippage and the laces are more than ample for wide feet. They have double holes at the top to help lock the laces or provide a tighter fit around the top. Because this is an all-leather upper it does not breath. There are no vents or cloth sections to allow the release of perspiration. With heavy socks it could be considered an all-season shoe in the mid-Atlantic and similar regions. The lining is thin, except around the foot opening. This provides comfort around the ankle, while a thick padded tongue with centering loops keeps the laces from cutting into the arch. Arch support is basically non-existent, so I wear Superfeet or some other footbed with arch support. I recommend wearing cotton socks to absorb perspiration or a combination of a "dry" sock liner with a cotton over top to absorb the moisture, due to the thin liner. Complaints and recommendations: My only real complaint is the sole design and how it picks up small stones and mud. Note that this shoe seems to run a little wide but the pointed toe box can cramp the second through fifth toe if a little too narrow. Sized properly the shoe fits well. Recommended and would buy again. ... show more

  • Best shoe I have ever owned
I bought a pair of these in black back on January 20, 2020. I am still wearing them, and walking in them as they have held up great and are the most comfortable shoe for long term walking I have ever owned. They still look like new when I wipe them down. I just got back from Scottland in August, 2023, and this was the only pair of shoes I brought for all the walking I would do. Great for the rain, keeps the feet dry. Very comfortable, unlike some of the other running shoes I have bought, or workout shoes for the gym I have bought over the last several years which have all worn out with far less use. I wear these daily as my go to pair of shoes to wear. This is the longest I have worn a pair of shoes, as usually I am very hard on my shoes and break the soles down in 6 months, but these are still comfortable when walking several miles and hiking in these. The leather has not worn down and when cleaned up still looks great after over 3 1/2 years. I highly recommend these, you will definitely get your money's worth out of these. They were 47.99 when I bought these in January 2020, so they haven't really gone up in price much. If you wonder why its taken so long for me to review them, I was just curious if they are still sold and their price as I might buy some backup pairs for the future! ... show more

  • Looks great - wears great but sizing is wierd
The shoes look great. I can walk in them, wear them to the office or place a little bit of old man basket ball. They are leather so they are a little stiffer than running shoes and they don't breath that well but conversely they offer good support for pushing off side ways. And leather looks more professional if you want to wear them to the office on a casual day. (Most days are casual days for me.) Here is the thing about the sizing. I wear a size 14 in Brooks shoes and in Asics shoes. If you look at those labels US Men's size 14 means 31 Centimeters to Brooks and Asics. But New Balance says that US Men's 14 means 32 CM to them. A CM is almost half an inch so that makes a difference. It felt fine floating around in the house in the New Balance version of size 14 but not for sports. It is a good idea to spend the extra time and money to get shoes that fit if they are going to get high usage. If your shoes don't fit, then you will get blisters. If you search for a shoe chart online you will find that size 14 means 31 CM to everyone except New Balance. So I returned the 14s and got size 13 which New Balance says is 30.5 CM and they fit fine and perform fine. So if you are in a hurry and need shoes that fit right go to the store, if you have time you can shop on line but you might have to exchange - which I did. BTW the shoes were $6 cheaper through Academy Sporting Goods online than they were through Amazon. ... show more

  • Because I know what the size number actually means.
The only thing I don't like is the way New Balance started putting in little "water channeling grooves" in the sole so I have to pick out the little itty bitty rocks before I go out, but hey.....it's not that much work> AND I know that shoes do not stretch....if they fit you, I know to get a shoe that has the arch in a slightly different place than the arch position on my foot just to keep the arch from supporting me in the wrong position. Two things to remember when buying a shoe are, 1. The number on the box isn't the length of the shoe. It tells you where the arch position inside the shoe is. This makes it easier for a person to incorrectly size their foot. Guys have shorter toe length than their arch length so they always buy to their toe length and get an incorrect arch position. AND 2. The only reason why a shoe stretches is because it's too tight or even a little snug. Shoes that fit, DO NOT STRETCH but they'll feel a tad big at first until you realize they are the most comfortable shoe you've ever had. And the 623 comes in all widths from B to E4.....or what some people would call XW, but most stores that only sell M width shoes, tell the customer "Oh, it will stretch. That's an easy way out so they don't have to work to correctly fit the customer. It's easy to flow with the main stream but difficult to accept another way of thinking. ... show more

  • Great fit & comfortable
This is my...3rd pair I've purchased from Amazon...I think (to lazy to go look through my purchase history. As a front-line healthcare worker I've worn New Balance for many years now. They always fit right and provide wonderful support for being on my feet all day. Rather than try and find the right shoe I wear at the local stores, I switched to getting these off Amazon and it's the only place I'll buy these shoes now. I have a smaller (8.5) size foot overall but a wider (X-wide) soul, if you will, so I need Extra Wide shoes or I am uncomfortable or in pain all day. The size I get on Amazon are comfortable, easy to slip on and off, sturdy, and a perfect fit. I generally go through 1 pair of these a year, as I'm always on my feet. So, the 1-day/Next Day, or even Same Day delivery for these is awesome. Being able to Try-Before-You-Buy is a plus as well for those that still might be skeptical. Two Thumbs Up on these sneakers/shoes! As an aside, I remove the factory insert inside the sneaker and replace it with Ortho inserts as I need more support (have for years no matter the sneaker I get). I just use off-the-shelf Dr. Scholls. The ones where you can use scissors to cut it to size. ... show more

  • Great workout shoes!
This is my second pair of these shoes. They look identical to the ones I had before, that have lasted years, yes years, like 10 years. I originally bought these at a local store when I was looking for something that was more suited for cross training/plyometrics exercise than my asics(which are still awesome for running/jogging). I was having issues with my lower joints and muscles(sore knees/ankles, shin splints, and general pain in my feet) when doing p90x/insanity. These made that issue go away almost immediately, I could actually walk after a workout. They were able to provide the arch support I need, plus the side support needed for lateral movement. That was almost 10 years ago, and although I never wore them outside, I'm still surprised they lasted that long considering the abuse they took. In the last 6mo I've noticed the pain in my feet was returning so I decided to buy another pair, and wasn't disappointed. Again the pain subsided almost immediately. I hope I can get the same level of durability as the old ones, but Im satisfied for now. My only complaint is that its $15 cheaper at the time of this review than when I bought them, but still money well spent. ... show more
