  • Sounds great; cool booklet; handmade; easy to play; authentic
Recently discovered that I am part Native American (1%), so I decided to explore my cultural roots from that side of the family. Ordered the flute... man its pretty cool. I had to fool with it for about ten minutes before I figured out how to get a good clear sound consistently... it has to do with how well your fingers cover up the holes and the adjustment of the eagle over the upper reed... not difficult to figure out. Don't blow too hard... you know... just mess with it. I went out and sat on the front porch. Live out in the country. I was playing the flute and all of these little song birds came and gathered around. It was kind of like Zelda. I mean, they didn't get that close, and it is spring and birds are all over the place. But they seemed to like the flute... bluebirds, robins, cardinals, even noisy brother blue jay perched nearby while I was playing. Plan is to keep practicing. I mean, this thing is great quality. Not some cheap piece of crap. I do a little hand carving myself and can tell the flute was done by hand... by the way the carving is. Especially on the eagle. Flute looks cool; could prop it up somewhere as a functional decoration. Gonna try and come up with a few songs... I'd like to have some sort of "end of the hunt song" ready for next deer season. I always get kinda torn, sad feeling after I get a deer. I mean, you've got to appreciate the life of the deer, I'll never have any respect for folks that just shoot them for fun. But my family has always been respectful, keep a freezer full of deer meat. But it'd be cool to play some sort of end of life song for brother deer. After the hunt. A little song of honor and respect. And its ok to be a little weird. I don't care. Like Bob Ross says on his show all the time. Its ok to be different. Amen. Good flute. I don't mind paying a little bit more to support Jonah Thompson. He makes a quality instrument. If you want a quality handmade Native American flute that sounds great and is really cool, rock'n'roll. Don't be surprised when you attract birds and squirrels, and when brother eagle screeches from high above. Touching the Wind. ... show more

  • Quality...Quality...Quality!!!
I have always loved the native American tone to the flute and music. I just now purchased a flute and was like the hell with it I am learning this thing...And boy, I can not be more pleased with this flute. The quality is stunning. The sound is pure and the tone is so relaxing. I have never played before this and I sat down for 4hrs learning this flute and I can not be happier on how far I have come. This is an amazing beginner flute for sure. I have people asking me or more not believing me when I play and tell them I just started learning . This is a must if you want to learn and play some beautiful music... ... show more

  • Key of Am. Excellent quality . Exceeded my expectations.
I gave this as a gift to a friend and she loved this flute . Not too big for fingering and is not a pocket flute. She loves the sound and ease of use. Note: she does have traditional flute skills. The included book has songs and graphics on fingering. She has already played on open Mic nights and a church solo. The eagle totem is also very spiritual for her. The included flute bag is a plus. I would buy this again. ... show more

  • Perfect starter flute wonderful sound for a good price
I've always wanted a wooden flute but never got one until now. I played flute in band for six years though so I can appreciate good tone and this flute sounds beautiful. Right off the bat I was really surprised about how light it is, it feels weightless, which is great if you want to play for a long time your arms shouldn't get tired. It takes hardly any effort to get a note to play but I will say you do need to be focused cause otherwise the note will waver and it won't sound right. Also you need to be aware of your finger placement cause not covering the holes properly will also cause the notes to come out weird/wrong. As others have said it does carry a really nice sounding echo if you're playing it in a space that would allow for it. Also even though the notes are smooth and easy to play don't be fooled it can be quite loud but not in a bad way. Just saying that this flute has a beautiful yet powerful and strong sound. The book that comes with it mentions needing to oil it to prevent cracking from moisture when you play it. But it didn't come with a dowel and cloth or oil to do this. I was a little disappointed since I was expecting it to come ready with everything needed so if you buy this know that you should buy a cleaning rod, cloth and oil for your flute. The only thing that I think was lacking was the leather strap with the decorative beads and feather. The beads and feather are not secured on there very well. My feather and beads came right off after accidentally pulling on it. I was able to slide them back on but just know that part is pretty fragile. Also the placement of the feather kind of gets in the way (of your hands) when you go to play. It's not a huge deal but it's something I thought was worth noting. The seller includes a book, a miscellaneous info sheet (in regards to the culture of native americans), your receipt and a code for a 10% discount for your next order. The book has two scales a couple of songs and some basic info in it. I will post a video later of the flute playing the scales so you can hear what it sounds like. Last thing I'd like to mention was the remarkable care taken with the packaging. The flute was in its woven bag, wrapped in a plastic bag that was then wrapped in bubble wrap and taped shut and put in a roomy box FULL of packaging peanuts. The chances of this coming damaged are slim to none which is very reassuring when it comes to online shopping. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to try out a wooden flute and would buy from this seller again. In fact I actually am already wanting to buy another one of their flutes but will have to wait since it's double the price of this one. ... show more

  • Hated Sound quality
Sound is bad, no return reply, losing faith in Amazon as well. would give 0 stars if possible
Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2024 by Paul Graff, flute is junk, cheap sound. Requested return from seller through Amazon and no response. I found a flute elsewhere that sounds really good.

  • Four Stars
Very nicely made. Beautiful tone. Would be 5 star but having a difficult time keeping the Eagle in place.

  • A Joy to Play!
I have had this flute for a little over a year now, and just let me say that after purchasing some fancier, more expensive flutes during that time, this remains my desert island flute. The tone to this flute is just exquisite; it WANTS to be played! Every note is perfect, clear and full. Seriously, this flute is a dream to play, and its voice is both haunting and soothing. Jonah is clearly a man who puts his heart into his products. The craftsmanship is wonderful, and this flute is truly a work of att on top of being a superb musical instrument. Buy one, you won't be disappointed! ... show more
