I recently ordered the Nat'l Geographic Clay Craft Kit for myself. The order arrived quickly and well packaged. I love working with clay and making my own pottery. This kit comes with two pounds of clay, and a few other accessories. It's a beginner kit for sure, especially made for the younger kids with limited exposure to crafts. This isn't just for kids, but I bet they have a lot of fun with it too.

This is a fun set for kids. The 10-page instruction booklet is kid friendly, and I was pleased so see that household items were suggested as options to be used as a rolling pin (such as a round jar). The 7 colors of paint — black, white, red orange, green yellow, gold—work nicely with the natural themes of the stencils (leaves, acorn, squirrel, bird), and the gold color looks really nice. One of my kids wanted to paint a bird like the parrots in the included “Pottery learning guide,” but those parrots have some blue feathers. Blue paint was not in the kit. Luckily, I had some other acrylic paint on hand. I had expected the “Pottery learning guide” to be a bit more robust — it is only 4 pages long, including the front cover and back page. It is nice for kids to have some of their own art tools, and with clay, a brush, a tool, paints, and stencils, this is a nice starter kit.

This kit was actually pretty impressive. My seven year old made an acorn ornament that looked okay but then once he painted it with the included paints it looked just really good--significantly better than I expected. We used our normal kitchen rolling pin to squish the clay down, but other than that everything else we needed was included in the kit. He’s successfully made two acorns, but the tree cracked in half…now full disclosure, my seven year old was handling the tree when it broke and I don’t think it was completely dry at the time. There is enough clay included with the kit to make a ton of ornaments/trays and there is also plenty of high quality paint. For the price ($17) I think this is a really good activity for an artsy child.

This art set was a fun choice. The materials were of standard quality and just what I would have expected for a kit of this sort. The clay was easily molded by myself and my child. This set would make a good gift for any art loving child. While the clay can be used to make anything they can imagine, the set has a forest or fall theme. It could make a fun halloween or first day of fall surprise.

This is a great kit for crafty kiddos. We are saving it for a rainy day activity but the kit looks very fun and a good way to introduce some information about cultural pottery. We’re very excited to make some fun critters! For the price, this seems to be a nice quality kit.

I’ll be using this kit with the kids over they’re spring break. Seems like it’ll be lots of fun, my daughter loves building with clay. I like that this kit comes with everything you need. NatGeo always has quality STEAM products. Definitely recommend for anyone with small children and a curious mind.
