I love love love this shelf unit! I have been wanting to finish my kitchen and was told that I cannot put cabinetry above the butcher block countertop area because behind that wall on the right side is the fuse box. I was bummed out for a while and was looking for the types of shelves that would hang from the ceiling and found them to be incredibly expensive and they didn't hang down low enough from my 10 foot ceilings to be practical. Because this unit is 6 feet tall and you only need 2 screws at the top of the unit to secure it in place, I thought I should try it. My husband and I put it together the moment it arrived and it was as easy as can be. from the moment I stood it up on the counter and felt how sturdy it was I was certain that the two screws holding it onto the wall would finally add some interest on that side of my kitchen. I included a couple pictures because although it is not advertised that it can sit on top a secured piece of furniture, it may give all you DIYers some creative ideas. My suggestion is to put a tablecloth on a big table and balance it out by doing the top shelf and then the bottom one. Oh, and use a electric screwdriver with a hex bit - for the love of God. I bought three of these for my den and now I've ordered two more for more things. Overall these are a very good value for the money. Fit and finish are good. Here's a tip when assembling: the support bars come in two pieces and need to be bolted together to be at their full height. Do that for both, then only bolt the shelves to one side on one support arm. Lay the unit on its side, then lay in the other support arm. Bolt the other side of the shelves. The problem is that the bolts that connect the two parts of the support bar block you from sliding the shelf down on its support arm that sits between the two bolts. You need to slide it in from the side, not the top. So if you're trying to bolt the shelves on both sides, from the top shelf on down as you go, you're gonna find yourself stuck and having to undo the prior shelves. The media could not be loaded. Ordered two shelves. Second one got lost in transit. Had to reorder. Assembly was pretty easy, took about 45 mins to a hour to assemble the first one second one was put together in 30. It’s not a shiny gold it’s more of a tainted gold. My client was more than pleased.

This was a great purchase. I needed a "filler" on one of my living room walls. I'm a minimalist as well, so design had to be very clean lines, simple and color had to be hip, organic, "dwell" like. I searched for hours until I came across this option. What a deal and what a find. Love the white with gray/white shelving. But I think the black would also be a great purchase in a different room... I'd prob do 3-4 units against the wall. If you lean toward any mid century modern aesthetics and clean line decor, this product should be considered. I assembled it all by myself, took me less than 35min (unbox to installation). Quality is good, nothing is flimsy or feels cheap. Immediately impressed by the quality and beautiful coloring of this piece when I opened the package. I worried the metal would be too bright white to go with my more off-white living room but it is not. The color of the shelves is a really nice warm brown and I think the wood looks very realistic. Easy to put together. Mine had one minor imperfection at the seam of the laminate on front of one of the shelves, but I just put that on top so no one would see it. I had to unscrew the middle screw on one side to get the last shelf on. The hardest part is leveling it before attaching to the wall. In my photo you’ll see I apparently have a huge sag in the floor under one side. FYI the bottom shelf is only 9.5” from the floor. If you want to put baskets side-by-side on a shelf you have about 21 1/2 inches between the poles. I bought baskets that claim to be 10.5” cube but don’t fit side-by-side. Update: loved it so much I bought the same thing for our office room. Posted more pics. The floor is level in this room so install was super easy this time, lol. The media could not be loaded. I love this shelf! I needed something tall to fill empty space and store books and plants. Each shelf is very heavy duty, so I can't imagine any bowing would occur in the future, unless it's got too much humidity. Before we put weight on the shelves, it had gaps between itself the wall, but it balanced itself out after adding books. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this shelf. It's definitely going to lay longer than anything you could but at IKEA. And it has VERY little wasted/unusable space. Just do it! I put it together myself, but I had to hold it steady/leveled while hubby secured it to the wall. It's not impossible to do alone, but get a second person to at least hold it still for you. ... show more
