Amazing Shelf!

I recently purchased a wall shelf from Nathan James and while the shelf itself is absolutely beautiful, the condition in which it first arrived was disappointing. The box looked quite beat up upon delivery, and when I opened it, I was dismayed to find that all of the shelves had sustained dents and scrapes. It was clear that the packaging was insufficiently protective; there was no styrofoam, and the shelves were not tightly secured, resulting in them being all over the place within the box. This lack of proper packaging likely contributed to the damages sustained during transit. However, when I reached out to Nathan James, I was met with exceptional customer service. A wonderful associate named Claire responded promptly and helped me resolve the issue. After a few emails back and forth, I was informed that not only would the damaged shelves be replaced, but I would also receive a brand-new shelving unit free of charge. Moreover, I didn’t have to send the old one back, which I plan to keep for replacement parts if needed. Despite the initial issues, I must say the quality of the shelf is fantastic. The unit is very heavy and the shelves are made of great material. They are also wide enough to fit all of my living room books and a few decorative pieces, which is exactly what I wanted. The size is perfect and it is very aesthetically pleasing. Also extremely easy to assemble. I did it by myself in like 30 minutes, and I am 5'2 – 120 pounds. Something like this would easily be twice the price! I believe this is the dupe of the CB2 wall shelf that goes for like $500. Amazing service from Nathan James! Their excellent customer support has made me very glad I purchased from them. I will definitely be purchasing other items in the future and recommending Nathan James to my friends and family.

Lovely but could use better engineering

I have 12ft brick walls. Normal height bookshelves wasn't going to cut it and this was the perfect intersection of "weird" dimensions and aesthetics that fits my place. So out of desperation, I bought three of these guys hoping for the best and, well, they aren't half bad. Pros: - They look exactly as pictured. Gorgeous, Scandinavian minimalist aesthetics and the manufactured wood shelves are well laminated with no damage through shipping on all three shelves. - Easy assembly. - (Vertically) strong as advertised Cons: - The steel supports only feature a single "L" tab in the back that supports the shelves. This means that the shelves themselves, due to the way they're attached, tilt forward if you put too much weight in the front. Seller, if you're reading this, add a front support tab for the shelves. It will make a world of difference. - The steel supports consists of two long pieces attached by a small internal section in the middle. While this is necessary for a reasonably short flat-packed footprint, this joint completely ruins any lateral structural integrity. Overall: The cons, at the end of the day aren't a huge issue if you're like me and like to push the books to the back of the bookshelf. BUT if you have a partner that likes to put the books to the front and a child or a large fur companion that enjoys zooming around and climbing things, this may not be for you as the shelf itself wobbles horribly when any lateral pressure is applied. Aside from those two concerns, it works just fine and looks great. Just make sure that it's properly secured in a place that sees little to no intense foot traffic.

Perfect in every way

The Theo Bookcase checks all the boxes for me. I shopped and compared a dozen different "ladder" syle, wall-mounted bookshelves before choosing this one. I liked this one because it has 6 shelves, compared to five shelves on most. It is 30" wide compared to 23" wide (or less) on most shelves offered. The most important feature I needed was the ability to clear the baseboard heating unit, which it does easily by 3"-4". I got this for our small vacation home that doesn't have a lot of extra space to place furniture, but I MUST have a place to keep my books! And because the few available spaces have the baseboard heat I want to be careful what I put in front of them. This shelf unit fits the available space perfectly and feels very secure with the frame screwed into the wall at the top. I also really like the all-white unit as it blends in with the white wall, making a cleaner uncluttered look. The finish on the shelves is very smooth and nice (and no worries, the plant on the top shelf has a padded mat under it!) The box is heavy so it helps to have two people to lift and carry it. After that the assembly can easily be done by one person and is very simple and straightforward. You might want two people again at the wall mounting stage so that one person can hold the unit in place while the other checks the level and marks for the wall screws, and then holds it in place for screwing in the brackets. I can't overstate how happy I am with the Theo bookcase! It is exactly what I envisioned.

I waited years to find the perfect bookcase for my apartment and as soon as I saw this, I knew it was the one and, it does not disappoint! It looks great! My husband and I put it together in about 45 minutes and all it takes are two screws to secure it to the wall. We can’t get over how good it looks, how well-made it is and the organization of the various pieces and the way they were numbered and lettered made assembly easy. No missing parts, no damaged shelves. Highly highly recommend!

Fits the spot

I bought these as soon as they were available in early 2020, and I wrote this review then, but forgot to post it. The shelves have been up for 2 years and they’re still great. This is the perfect shelf for my closet—I was looking for the tallest, lightest possible shelves to fill the closet and hold a lot of boxes and books—and wanting the best quality for the price. Three units fit the width with about an inch to spare. I searched for quite a while before finding these—avoiding cheap IKEA and particle board shelves (flimsy/heavy). An acceptable alternative might have been wall mounted track shelves. These shelves here aren’t as cheap as the cheapest IKEA options. These aren’t perfect, but for the price, look, and purpose, they are great for me. The shelves were packed well and easy to unwrap, with a red ribbon to pull to open. A couple supports were scratched, but once they were in place, it was not noticeable. The shelf veneer was in great condition. When installed, the shelf seems very sturdy, but while being assembled, it’s a little flimsy. A few of the welds look rough—I hope they hold the claimed 55lbs per shelf. (update—after two years up, the everything’s holding up well) Assembly was easy, but I had to deviate from the instructions for this install, putting up the support bars first, then installing the shelves. It was not a problem to do this without any help. I also had to cut 3” from one of the supports to fit into the left side of the closet. I used a hacksaw and strong piece of hardwood to rejoin the support where it was sectioned. All the shelves are particle board (or MDF) and the wood veneer is synthetic—although so realistic I didn’t notice until I saw some repeated grain/knot patterns and took a close look. There’s texture printed on material so it feels like real wood. I wish the company was upfront about the shelf material because it’s described as reclaimed rustic oak. However, it's the most wood-like artificial material I've seen to date, so kudos. Next, the diagram on the company site showed the space between shelves as 12”, however, it’s only 11.5”—a problem for a few of my larger books. What would make these even better: I wish there was hardware to connect multiple units when they’re next to each other. (Some IKEA shelves, like the Fjalkinge line, has clips to hold the vertical supports in place.) And I wish the nuts and wall mounting screws were white, rather than chrome. Otherwise, great shelves, and I’m back to order more!
