This calming cap worked perfect for our issue. Our four-year-old black lab is a rescue and we quickly learned that he barked inconsolably. We tried everything sitting with him in the backseat, harnessing him in reassuring, consoling nothing worked from the time the car started moving till we stopped. He barked continuously. I thought I had. Gone through all of what could be wrong. Why didn’t he like to ride in the car? I googled one night why does my dog bark in the car and I got a list when territorial/protection came up I knew this was our issue. He is very protective of us. Then I dug deeper to find out what we could do to help him. One of my searches came up with the calming cap. I ordered this one. Lava is a 90 pound labrador and the XL fits good. The strap is a little long across the top of the head but it works. I tried it on him in the garage and he let me put it on and adjust. I praised him then took it off. We got ready. I got him in the car, put his harness on and seatbelt put the calming cap on gave him a treat and slowly backed out of the driveway when I turned, he made a little whimper. I reassured him, He was OK and off we went. We drove around the block three times past people walking and nothing no barking no anxiousness he even laid down three or four times in the backseat and all of those were rewarded with a treat. This worked for my furbaby! five stars and for the price it’s worth a try.

I purchased all 3 sizes at different times, trying to get one that fit my dog and returned all 3. Somehow, the XL came by mistake, but the L and M didn't work for us either. My dog is a Corgi, and shouldn't be all that hard to fit. Having previously owned a blind dog, I know intimately well how a dog who is unable to see copes and behaves in what might be frightening or uncertain situations. This mask actually terrifies a dog who CAN see and has its sight abruptly taken away. Add to that the fear of something scary going on -- like a nail clipping, car ride, thunder storm, or being handled by a stranger. The poor fit aside, I'd say all in all, I think this product is a very bad idea. To the point that I'd call its use borderline cruel.

My dog has anxiety, he is a German shepherd chow chow mix, often in the car he jumps up and scratches at windows and on a console which gets us very upset because he like to keep our car nice and not get ear damage from him barking in our ear. I've been looking for solutions which I used a makeshift blindfold to experiment with and it worked well, I decided to get one that's in place and can't get pulled off by him, I opted on this one because the straps were adjustable and its appearance was realativly sleek, it didn't look too confomfortable due to the elastic being a bit small on his muzzle (probably get a larger size so he's more comfortable on longer car rides. The shade is completely opaque which I am OK with since he won't be needing his vision to sit and lay in a car. Although if your planning of having it be a mesh/sheer eye cover, this isn't for you, use this in kennels or closed safe spaces and be able to know your pet won't be running around blind because that would definitely be a safety hazard, as for the value this is a bit pricy for what came in, the bucks are plastic but I do like that it's adjustable and with the straps and elastic.

I really didn't want to try this but a trainer insisted as my dog goes beserk when he sees other dogs, people, anything. He is young, high energy and exuberant to a fault. The mask limits the dog's vision but there is a mesh section that he can see out of - it's just restricted. This calms him down so that walking him is a pleasure and I'm working toward him walking without it at some point. We are getting there. It is like day vs night with my dog.

This has been a godsend as a management tool for our reactive dog. We adopted our 7.5 year old dog and his reactivivity can be intense. We are working with a trainer but management is key until he improves. He gets triggered during car rides, if people are in the distance and he is really triggered if he sees another dog. We put this on him during car rides and he is able to relax and avoid being over stimulated. He is dog reactive too and we can slip it on quickly during a walk if we spot a dog before he does and to avoid him seeing other dogs leaving the vet while we wait in the car. It is very easy to put on quickly as soon as you figure out how to put it on. I wish they had a video showing how to put it on. I'll try to add a video to this review to help others. I worked with him for several weeks to get him used to wearing it. He knows when we put it on before a car ride that he's going somewhere fun, like a private Sniffspot or a park, so he tolerates it. I also keep a squeeze tube of peanut butter handy and can reach back from the passenger seat to give him some licks of the peanut butter, which helps him relax and forget that it's on. I wouldn't advise this, but we were able to walk him a mile with this thing on and he didn't care. His nose took over and he just enjoyed the walk. We had to be careful to guide him because they cannot see at all. We also bought the one they can partially see through on Chew.com and it is not as effective and takes way longer to put on.
