  • Neat Device with “Sticky” Pins!
Size: Retro Champ Bundle
Very easy to setup in handheld or television mode. The wireless controllers connect instantly and had no detectable lag. Overall the build quality is solid, though I would prefer a better display (viewing from a slight angle causes visual distortions). The one challenge I continue to experience is ejecting carts on the NES side. I have to pull and jostle each game to remove it from the console. This seems to be an issue with modern remakes of the 52-pin component. The original NES had a lesser grip on games (which also caused some of the blue screens, wouldn’t you know?). I’m happy with the device but an actual Nintendo console may be in my future. ... show more

  • Super handy portable NES
Size: Retro Champ Bundle
I've had my Retro Champ for a couple weeks now, and I've really been enjoying it. I typically play my NES/Famicom games on a RetroUSB AVS, but I'm super lazy and don't always want to walk down the hall to my television. So the Retro Champ is a fine companion. I can play Castlevania while lying on the floor, or Wrecking Crew while sitting at my computer desk. I did purchase the premium bundle that includes two wireless controllers, and I like those a lot. They pair with the system instantly, and input lag seems minimal to my aging brain. They feel great in the hand, and battery life seems very good so far. The built-in screen isn't the best, but it displays the game and as long as you don't have your nose an inch from the unit, it is quite acceptable for the price. When playing in 4:3 aspect ratio, a small portion of the right side of the game is cut off (which won't matter for most games). The controls work fine and feel decent enough, but it seems like they were designed for much bigger hands than mine. There is a kickstand on the back to prop up the system while playing with controllers, and it seems sturdy so far. A cleaning kit is built into a compartment on the side, in case you absolutely HAVE to play that filthy copy of Hydlide before you get it home from the thrift store. HDMI output looks a lot better than the built in display, just keep in mind that this is clone hardware. Colors and sounds will be a little off compared to a proper NES, but you are pretty cool and can tolerate this, I am sure. The built-in display turns off when using the HDMI (I would personally have liked the option to leave it on). Battery life is very good (more than four hours). The unit has both a headphone jack and speakers. So again, I like the Retro Champ a lot. For someone who grew up with the NES and still plays regularly, it's nice to have such a versatile piece of hardware to carry around. I think it's great for the price, which is why I'm giving it five stars. If it cost, say, $25 more, then I'd probably be more critical of the built-in display and give it four stars instead. ... show more

  • An authentic NES experience!!!
Size: Retro Champ
A lot of YouTubers and website bloggers are very wrong about this device. My Arcade has succeeded in providing a very nostalgic authentic Nintendo Entertainment System experience. What we get here is not HD or modern beyond the handheld aesthetic of the console itself. This the closest thing to a truly portable NES that has ever been released. The 7 inch LCD screen outputs the signal exactly how I remember playing NES cartridges as a child. Those complaining about the image quality have been extremely spoiled by modern HD displays and now believe that everything needs to be upscaled or outputted at 1080p or better resolution, or else its considered trash. The buttons and D-pad are reminiscent of the NES and feel very good. I had no problems whatsoever enjoying all my Nintendo carts. The games fit very snug in the port, but are not as difficult to remove as some YouTubers & bloggers claim. If you are looking for a way to take your Nintendo games on the go and are not expecting these 30+ year old cartridges to output in pristine HD like modern games, this is the handheld you have been looking for! Highly recommended! A++! ... show more

  • it works decently
Size: Retro Champ
overall i'm satified with it. like big for a portable but works and plays games very well and built in controls are responsive no lag. i know some complain about the lcd screen. but i'm not sure the issue people are actually caused by the screen but more by the emulation the device is using too run the carts. mostof these clones dump the rom from the cartridge and run theu an emulatore and displayed. that part and over all emulation is really goodon the device. but the images particulary the colors and and edges with blurryness look s more like the emulator is using a filter too softenthe eges of the pixel and bunp of the constrast instead out out putting the original sprites. i noticed this mainly as it looks indentically too one of theoptional filter you can add too agame wheni using another clone console namely the retron. which made think this could be it instead og the screen which from different viewing angle doesn't look too bad. over all its decent handheld too paly a quick nes game onthe go or even take too flee markets and such to test out games you looking to buy for your collection. as long as you dont expect to be indental too playing on the original hardware it wont disapoint ... show more

  • Only 1 type of controller works
Size: Retro Champ
The retro champ is good for the price, but there's only one "my arcade" controller that it is compatible with and it constantly syncs to the 2nd player position. So it's practically useless, unless you can finally get it to sync to the 1st player position. It takes a few tries to get it to work. But the system itself plays very well and I would definitely buy it again. But It has its flaws ... show more
