This is an excellent little gadget for quieting the recorder when you want to practice at late or inconvenient hours. It really does work. The downside is, although this is ideal for young students for convenience in a classroom, there is a recorder hack. Cut a small strip of paper about 2 inches long and a bit smaller than the window . I bought these for my elementary music class so the recorders were not so loud. They snap on very easy and work well. Something I thought people should know is that they work really well with Yamaha recorders, but other (cheaper) recorders they totally block the sound, so they can't hear what note they are playing. I'm not sure why it works only on certain brands of recorders, please check what brand recorder you have before buying these. ... show more

Es muy necesaria porque a veces quieres practicar a una hora que otros duermen o necesitan algo de silencio, asi que puedes hacerlo sin interrumpir sus actividades. Funciona de maravilla! This little mute clips onto a soprano recorder and cuts the sound output by about 70% if you need to practice where you might disturb others. The sound quality that remains is, of course, not wonderful but not unpleasant either.

These mutes are very helpful in a classroom setting and at home. I would have rated them even higher but I was unable to get a sound on every recorder in my room using the mute. Several had zero sound. But, thank you, whoever finally came up with this. My sensory students can now play recorders! Yay!!! ... show more

It works as advertised, on soprano recorders. I gave one to a music teacher/band director friend of mine and he is quite happy with it, as it lets his youngest son play the recorder in the car without disturbing everyone else. These mutes do what they say. One side decreases the sound and the other cuts it off totally. Yes, the pitch is altered, but that's physics. I use them in my classroom to quiet the volume of the other kids while I test one on one. They can continue to practice, and I can hear better. Nice idea. It made no difference however, what side I used. I followed the short instructions. It makes no difference what side I use, it is muted. One side is just suppose to make it less loud. I can barely hear anything. I find myself blowing too hard. So, I will still use them. I am hoping my ears adapt and I can hear it well enough to play and not disturb people.
