I immediately pre-ordered this book when I found out about it in April and am so glad I did. What a treat. I read this cover to cover and was surprised in hindsight to discover the length is 208 pages. The illustrations are wonderful. The nine story selections are a combination of classic Mr. Ballen channel favorites and new stories, all of which are intriguing and based on actual events. I appreciate that references are included in the Further Reading section. One of my all-time favorite Mr. Ballen segments is The Valley of Headless Men, so I love that this was selected to be the opening tale. The narration is fantastic and the stories are easy to read aloud to listeners who can't see the illustrations. I read The Beast of Gevaudan to my three kids tonight shortly after tucking them in and it held their rapt attention, which is no easy feat. Not only is Mr. Ballen a captivating storyteller, this book helps the rest of us be storytellers, too. I was an avid reader growing up and perhaps what I love the most about this graphic novel is that I have a suspicion it will be a school book fair favorite soon and help many kids also develop that love of reading. It is visual and also promotes research to read about the events that the stories are based upon. My oldest kid is a huge Mr Ballen fan, and this probably made her Christmas. The artwork inside is well done, and his stories are always top tier.

I really enjoy watching the stories from Mr. Ballen on YouTube with My bf, I decided to purchase this book as a gift for him and I received it with one of the pages folded, as well one of the sides of the cover it's kind damaged, but it is really small. Overall the book it's awesome, that's the reason I'm giving a full 5 stars, the Illustrations are incredible and the stories never disappoint, very recommended. ... show more

I can’t wait to give this to my daughter. We love watching Mr. Ballens videos together and she’s going to love this graphic novel. Very durable hardcover so we can read it over and over again! The quality is great too, the pictures are vibrant and the words are easy to read

MrBallen has got to be one of my favorite storytellers. I started listening to him when he first began his YouTube channel and was hooked immediately. So when he announced his first graphic novel, I, as well as many other Ballen fans, were super stoked. Once I received my copy I was completely impressed how well it was laid out. It’s a brilliant written version of Ballen’s story telling, compressed into these great illustrations. However, don’t let the word “compressed” fool you. The stories he writes is not lacking in detail and information. I would not only recommend this to my fellow MrBallen fans, but to anyone that loves a great storyteller of true stories, especially of the strange, dark and mysterious. ... show more
