These tools should work well for a couple years for a beginner gardener but you'll likely want to upgrade to better tools down the line. If you decide gardening is not for you, you haven't spent much to find out. The little signs to label your plant rows is a nice touch but you'll want to use a larger marker (aka Sharpie). ... show more

When you live in the middle of the woods, gaming is one of the few things you can do in the winter, unless you're into snow sports. If not, then you're pretty much stuck inside. When spring finally comes around after a long, cold New England winter, one of the best ways to get outside is by gardening. Not many people would take me for a gardener, but I started getting into it last year as a way of keeping me active when I'm not hiking, biking, or anything of that sort. I had virtually no gardening tools, so I used things like screwdrivers for pulling weeds and raking the soil. When I saw this kit, I grabbed it so I could have some actual gardening tools. Now that the snow is finally melting, I've been testing everything out. PROS This kit comes with everything anyone would need to get into gardening, including markers for the plant labels, and a handy tool belt. The cultivator, weeder, and trowel all feel great, like something I would expect to pay a decent amount of money for at Ace Hardware or someplace like that. I never make a point on the price, but at around $40, this is very difficult to beat, especially if you're not 100% sure you're going to make a hobby out of gardening. CONS The plant labels are pretty cheap, and I'm not really confident that they'll stand up to weather and chipmunks. Overall, this is an excellent investment for the budding gardener (no pun intended) and for the price, you really can't go wrong. I haven't used it too extensively just yet, as winter in New England is barely over, but I've been really happy with it so far. I would recommend this to anybody like me, just starting out. I'll probably buy a set for my wife as well, since she's also getting into gardening. ... show more

This is great gardening set. My Dad has some raised garden beds that he is working on and this set is perfect for that. I can wait to work on it with him. It seems like it's a really good quality set.

    • Tools are handy, pens are just felt-tip
I honestly got this for the tool-belt more than anything. I have had trouble finding the perfect tool belt for the garden. This works for me while I'm doing seeding at the potting bench; we'll see how it does while I'm kneeling and weeding and planting. Overall, this set is useable, especially if you have a youngster looking to "help" you in the garden. The tools are useable. Not as heavy-duty as high-priced pieces from the nursery, but useable, and even great for kids to muck around with. The pens are just felt-tip pens. I don't find them to be extra special in anyway, but I'm also a choosybpen user. My favourite pen is a Japanese roller-ball and I have to import the ink cartridges, so take my pen critique with some salt. ... show more
