The strap might technically be able to hold 175 pounds, but the leash as a whole will not stand up to a large breed dog if he gets excited. The leash is otherwise very nice. It's long, has a built in light that was plenty bright enough for late night walks and has a locking mechanism to lock the leash at a fixed length. However, i used mine for a couple months and one day I was walking my 150 pound great dane and he spotted something of interest and tugged on the leash a little. He didn't pull hard, he didn't try to drag me along with him or anything, he just gave a firm tug wanting to check something out. The leash strap slipped down the seam in between the two halves of the handheld part and something inside got messed up so that the leash neither retracts all the way, nor extends out as far as it's supposed to, even though I was able to pull the strap back up into its designated hole. Now I could understand if he had pulled really hard, gotten excited and started lunging at something and fighting against me, but he didn't. He gave one good firm tug as he trotted over to something until he hit the end of the leash and when he hit the end and pulled, I called him back and he came back to me, but the leash wouldn't go back in. So yeah, the strap might not break with a large dog on the end of it, but the mechanism can. ... show more

I like the retractable dog leash. I have Turkish Kangel dogs. The leash gives you up to 16 feet distance between you and your dog. The bonus items (water bowl and waste bags) come in handy. I ordered on a Friday and received the following Monday. Excellent purchase!

i have a few issues with this leash: 1. button is sticking. i realized this 2-3 days after the return window closed on amazon, so i cannot return is. it means when its locked it takes several tries to unlock it. sometimes i frustratingly cannot tell its stuck in the locked or unlocked position 2. its heavy and large. i could overlook the size, but its heavier than other 16' retractable leashes: perhaps due to the flashlight 3. flashlight is weak. i appreciated the 3 extra batteries they sent. i walk with a bright headlight at night. the flashlight is dim and not real useful 4. handle is too small for large/heavy winter gloves. its difficult to get my hand in the handle with the gloves on, and when the temperature is below 20 my finger tips get Really cold. the leash in my other hand is a flexi leash with a larger handle. the other hand stays warmer wish i had figured out the button issue 2-3 days sooner so i could have returned this leash ... show more

This Leah is great if you have a big dog. Not so good for small dogs. I have a French mastiff & a pug. The tension is great for my mastiff but the train is to strong for my pug. It's still a great leash though. I recommend it if you have a large strong dog

I like it because of the flash light but the leash still get stuck when it says it's not supposed to, it doesn't come with many bags and the first day I had it the flashlight button came off and I lost it somewhere because I didn't even know it had come off. I have used retractable leashes in the past with little satisfaction with medium dogs. I have a large dog now and decided to go with a normal 6’ leash. My dog is an 85 pound friendly beast that enjoys sniffing. So when he stops to sniff something, he almost trips me and when he decides to go into the ditch along the road we walk I also worry about slipping. Bought this retractable leash and was pleasantly surprised with its smooth action and durability if and when my dog pulls. Very happy with this purchase. Maybe the strap and latch are rated for a 175 pounds but the handle assembly sure is not. We got 2 walks out of it and I did like the grip and the function of the lock but my 120 pound dog gave it a pull and the strap slipped into the seam of the handle assembly and now you can hear loose broken pieces rattling around inside of it. ... show more
