  • Fantastic quality set of M2 way Motorola Radios
Model name: T802
Fantastic 2 way radios with more features than I need, but great quality and size. I was in commercial construction for my entire career, and when we used radios, we always used Motorola. I bought these for working in attic or crawl space so I can communicate without having to pound on framing to get my partners attention. Much easier to just talk and listen from a clear radio. It also comes in handy when you are driving with 2 vehicles on a long road trip. It is way better than using the cell phone, for sure. They come with a rechargeable battery and They hold the charge all day of use. ... show more

  • Clip update and Bluetooth connection
Model name: T802
Radios work great. Just an update, based on other reviews, they have changed the clip design. Bluetooth is good. Tried both AirPod pro 1 and 2. AirPods don’t work that great because if they are paired to your iPhone they automatically connect to the iPhone and you can’t get them onto the radio. Even if not paired to your iPhone they want to connect as a new device every time I open them. Volume was low and if you pushed the PTT button on the radio it used that mic on the radio not the headset. Only way to transmit through Bluetooth was to click the stem once and remember to click again to stop. Using the soundcore liberty 4 pro seems to do the trick. PTT button goes through the Bluetooth mic. Volume is much better. You can adjust the volume for both headsets with the stem and use transparency and noise cancellation. Bluetooth update: I have also tried the Earfun clip and the Earfun Air Pro 4+ both work and connect extremely well. I customized the controls so that one press activates the voice assistant which functions as a push to talk on the radio so you press once to transmit and press again to stop. You can set it to different things like double, triple or long press if preferred. I can also confirm the Earfun Open Jump works as well. If you need something for very loud environments I would recommend something that is in ear and has noise cancellation. ... show more

  • Calling all family members. Come in please... over
Model name: T800
To start with, I wanted to mention that I am a licensed ham radio operator. I state this fact not to impress you, but to convey the fact that I have better methods of communication at my disposable than a pair of FRS / GMRS radios. So why would I want this? Simple. Not everyone is licensed, and there may be times I may want to communicate with my spouse, or someone else in a more relaxed setting. Say hiking, camping etc. Disclaimer - The FCC requires a license to use the GMRS frequencies of this radio. What's this? The Motorola T800 comes with a total of 22 channels. These 22 channels are divided into FRS (Family Radio Service) channels 8-14 and GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) channels 1-7 and 15-22. No license is needed to operate the radio on the FRS channels. However, to be completely legal - and to use the higher power GMRS frequencies, the FCC will be more than happy to sell you a GMRS license for around $65 or so for a 10-year period. The good news is, that the GMRS license does not require the passing of any tests, it covers not only you, but also other members in your household. So, from that perspective, the license fee is not bad at all. Enough of the legalize - now onto the features of this radio. There are many FRS / GMRS radios available for sale all over the place, for a lot less money than this set. So, why spend the extra cash? Easy. These radios can transmit text and location data from a smartphone via a bluetooth connection to the radio. This feature is fairly new, and is great for hiking or other off-grid type situations where cell phone service may not be available. One simply has to download the Talkabout app from the respective app store for Android or iOS, sync ones mobile phone via bluetooth to the radio and create an account (optional). And the whole process is fairly straight-forward, as the app walks one through each step of the way. Note, the bluetooth functionality has to be turned-on first on the radio, before trying to connect it to ones mobile phone. The phone app can also be used to view individuals / group locations on a map, to record routes and track statistics, set boundaries, and control the radio settings. The overall radio range is going to be limited by terrain. The package states a range up to 35 miles mountain to valley communication, up to 6 miles over open water, and up to 2 miles in a neighborhood. Your mileage will vary. To me, the blue LCD display is easy to read. It dims and then disappears after 20 seconds or so, only blinking a tiny blue indicator and/or a flashing bluetooth symbol. This is done to conserve the battery. This radio is weather proof to IPX4 standards, but not completely water proof. In other words, in can get slightly wet provided all of the ports (battery cover, headphone cover) are sealed. It also includes a NOAA weather radio and a built-in flashlight (LED). Another great feature I really appreciate is the dual power option. These radios come with a rechargeable NiMH battery pack for each radio or can be powered by 3x AA batteries. A USB charger with y-adapter so both radios can be charged at the same time is also included in the box. You'll also get easy pairing (through a button on the side of the radio, or through the app), emergency alert function to alert other users on the same frequency, vibration alert, and hands-free VOX operation. In other words, these radios are feature packed! On top of that, Motorola has been producing radios for many years. You'll get great equipment, awesome features, at a great price. On top of that a 2-year warranty which is really outstanding! Yours truly highly recommends these radios if you want to go beyond the same 'ol FRS bubble pack radios you find at the big box stores. And one last thing... If your're interested in any type of emergency comms. I think a good set of FRS / GMRS radios fit right into the mix along with more sophisticated communications like ham radio. Plus, you can use these while just out having fun too. ... show more

  • great radios
Model name: T803
these worked better than expected. I was able to talk clearly with someone indoors with the second radio while I went down the street, at least 2/3 to 3/4 mile in a treed neighborhood. I turned back because of weather, but certainly could have gone further, but that was good enough for what I needed. connected to smartphones I could text 1/3 a mile away ( I believe data is lower power). note that the 802 and 803 are identical, except the 803 has the overpriced charging stand (which doesn't include a wall charger). either model can be charged with USB C. they also can be powered with alkalines if you can't charge. take the time to work through the manual (or better, use the online version so you can zoom for easier reading). overall, great radios! ... show more

  • Equally as good as our Rocky Talkies
Model name: T800
These stand on the same podium as our Rocky talkies. We where about 3 miles back into a deep mountain valley, our friends had a rocky talkie and another group had one of these and multiple times the two Motorolas where able to be heard vs the rocky talkies. Had these for about two years; one of them the battery is completely shot and holds no charge, replaced it with rechargeable batteries but they will not recharge via the charger port on the talkie. They could be louder, it’s hard to hear in high wind, or when you’re skiing/snowboarding. You often miss what’s being said when you’re in motion. The clips on the back are not strong either, they broke almost immediately and when they are in the cold the plastic stands no chance. Wish there was an alternative for mounting these to a person. Anyone can use these though, there is almost no learning curve, they fit right in your pocket like a cell phone and I will say overall these are worth the money. ... show more
