I like these radios because they don't weigh much but they can communicate effectively on a bunch of different frequencies. If you are on a hiking trip you can have each person carry one and then they can be in contact with the other people to ask questions or make more detailed plans for where to stop and rest. You can also use these to communicate between vehicles when you are on a road trip and want to indicate that you plan to pull off at an exit to look for gas or food. It is easier to use these radios than to try to communicate by cell phone especially if you are in a place that does not have very good cell phone service. ... show more

I bought these to add to the two that I already have, and they work perfectly fine. My only complaint is that the battery life isn't as long as I would like. They do keep a charge for most of the day, though.

The charge depletes even when it is turned off and only lasts a few days even turned off. The range of about 5 miles was decent in heavy forest, but lots of static. But it is pretty much useless without the ability to hold a charge.
