  • Excellent Book on Motorcycle Basics
Format: Hardcover
I grew up with Haynes manuals for my old gold 1972 CB250 Honda and went on to really appreciate and respect them when I bought a 1974 BMW R75/6. Haynes' manuals have good illustrations and pictures of real (ie dirty and unloved) engine components as well as "after" photographs. They are accurate and do not cut corners or contain ambivalent instructions. They are practical and offer very helpful advice - like "do it this way - otherwise you risk losing the tip of your left middle finger". Compelling. This Haynes manual is really interesting because it shows the progression in technology over time - how new technology overcame problems with previous designs - helpful when you're restoring older machines. ... show more

  • Reviewing Haynes' Basic Techbook
Format: Hardcover
For someone new to motorcycling, just coming to realize that riding a bike involves care and feeding, but who never maintained their own car, this book provides an essential overview. Read this book BEFORE reading through your owners manual and repair manual, if you're not already a grease-monkey. It's overview of each aspect of motorcycles is so clearly written, with plenty of detail and specs, that you'll enjoy reading it as much as you do your motorcycle magazines. ... show more

  • A comprehensive overview
Format: Hardcover
This book is really well written and - except for a couple of passages a little obscure - clear and easy to follow. A great starting point.

  • Good book good reference
Format: Hardcover
Good book good reference. Shop manuals are great for how to do repairs but understanding how the part work with each other is how you trouble shoot problems and this has helped me understand how different motorcycle systems work. This is not very useful for specific repairs but a good way to learn how systems work and work with each other so is a great way to learn how to trouble shoot. ... show more

  • Great reference to have
Format: Hardcover
This book is very clearly written and well-illustrated. It's not a book that I'd sit down to read cover to cover, but it's what I need when I have a technical issue.

Format: Hardcover
I guess in terms of comprehensiveness this book is the best, however it is just so dry that if like me you want to just read it as a book to fully understand bikes you're probably gonna struggle.

  • Buy this
Format: Hardcover
After reading this book you will feel more confident talking to mechanics when you take your bike to service. It has very nice drawing and easy to read descriptions about how each component of the motorcycle works.
