Story The story of how the heroes and villains of Mortal Kombat and the DC universe could find themselves not only existing on the same plain, but battling each other revolves around coincidental victories in the respective realms by Raiden and Superman. In Raiden's case it was a victory over Shao Kahn, while Superman bested Darkseid. These occurred at the exact same time and involved inter-dimensional elements, which somehow merged their two enemies into one being, Dark Kahn, while allowing the characters of the two universes to interact. In this merging the powers of the heroes and villains are scrambled as well, making some stronger than they ever were, and leaving others vulnerable for the first time in their lives, allowing each to battle on more or less equal footing. And battle they do without realizing that the uncontrollable rage that they feel for each other is actually the work of Dark Khan. Gameplay Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe being a fighter, gameplay consists of one-on-one battles, both in local play and online, in which players can choose a character from either side who will face off against a counterpart from the other. Each character has unique attacks and special finishing moves, and fighting arenas vary depending on whether your character comes from the Mortal Kombat or DC universe. Keeping with the reputation for brutality in the Mortal Kombat franchise, characters from this side will have access to fatalities, while the historically less overly violent DC Comics characters will execute "heroic brutalities," which are end moves where the opponent while beaten, is not killed. The game also features new gameplay mechanics such as: Freefall Kombat, in which players can engage in extended combat while in midair; Klose Kombat, during which the play angle moves to a close-up view of the action; The "Test Your Might" mini-game where you smash your opponent through walls; and Rage Mode, which increases the power of a character's attack by 50% and provides protection against being stunned by an opponent. Playable Characters Playable characters in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe consist of some of the most popular heroes and villains from both universes, with most being available from the beginning of the game and some unlockable throughout. • Scorpion vs. The Batman...
Platform For Display: Xbox 360 Edition: Standard
Outside of the fundamental approach to the casual 3D fighting style of Mortal Kombat there were several unique qualities added into the mix that brought some sparkle to the platform. One such mark of interest was the fact that you can ram opponents through obstacles and battle mash your buttons in a struggle to reduce or reverse damages. The game definitely has its moments where the intelligence of the game developers surfaces and it isn't too shabby. Essentially, I am a fan of Batman, Mortal Kombat (primarily the character Scorpion), and fighting games in general. The fact that game comes off a bit dry at times really doesn't hinder me while playing due to the fact that there are hidden characters and the like as incentive to stay somewhat focused. I, however, cannot confirm but, suspect that when the appeal of the hidden "easter-eggs" has worn down the game's re-playability will take a fatal head dive to the mat. It is fun for the sake of having a Mortal Kombat cross-over especially considering that the D.C. character line-up: The Flash, the Joker, Batman, Cat-woman; etc. are all well done, all faithfully reproduced, and in strong character. The MK characters that you would demand be present are all there with the same being so for the D.C. Universe line-up. The game has dropped dramatically in price, covers a niche pretty well, has strong Mortal Kombat fighting mechanics and no chump character line-ups. So, if you like fighters, have a few bucks burning a hole in your pocket, and enjoy twisted cross-over style games then this title will probably satisfy your urge. For the money I shelled out for the game, getting it brand new, and the details I explained above I have to rate this title pretty well. ... show more

  • My two cents
Platform For Display: Xbox 360 Edition: Standard
First off, let me start by saying I'm a former comic book nerd. I still enjoy the classics, and that's what you're getting here. Names that just about everyone outside of the genre has heard of; Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, The Joker. A few are a bit more random, like Deathstroke the Terminator. But, you'll have that in a game with lots of characters. Over on the Mortal Kombat side, they also went with the safe bet and gave us most of the fan favorites. I have been underwhelmed with most of the Mortal Kombat stuff that has been thrown out there in the last seven or eight years, but I found this game to be a delight. It's easy to learn, it has a bunch of characters, but not enough to make it impossible to get good at a majority of them, and, if you waited till now to pick it up, it's pretty darn cheap. If you're reading reviews, that means you're at least thinking about buying this game. Stop now, and buy it. It's worth your money, if only for the lovely chaos that is The Joker. Seriously, just say "Boxing Glove Gun" out loud, and you know you'll want this. Gameplay is good, graphics are good, sound's alright, characters are well-chosen and diverse enough to please even the more picky of fighting game enthusiasts. There's no bonus content, though. There's a story behind all that, but if you care all that much, google it. ... show more

  • Literally 10/10 quality product.
Platform For Display: Xbox 360 Edition: Standard
I’m not sure if it said brand new on the description but when I received it, it was literally brand new and that blew me away considering it’s such an old game. It hurt to unpackage seeing as it was flawless but I needed to play it of course. Also delivery packaging was on point.

  • Great Game ... even without the blood & gore!
Platform For Display: Xbox 360 Edition: Standard
I haven't played a Mortal Kombat game since winter of 95' which was UMK3. I read most of the reviews on this game which were negative just because the lack of blood/gore which doesn't make a game good nor bad in my opinion. So I took a chance and gave it a try. Interesting enough the graphics are amazing and the game play is fun even though I don't particular like the combo system. The combos only seem to require a little bit of timing at the beginning and then the rest is input in sequence no matter what is happening on screen. It took me a little while to figure this aspect out which makes no sense at all and may drive you crazy. I absolutely love the air combat stuff ... now that's what I call fun ... lol. The story line & combos make this game a treat to play and highly recommend giving it a try ... it's definitely worth adding to your library of games. Sure, I also would've liked to seen some hardcore fatalities but it's still fun to play without them and we have MK9 to look forward too. ... show more

  • Fun game, does get repetitive though
Platform For Display: Xbox 360 Edition: Standard
I grew up playing the MK series. I remember running across an original MK arcade machine just a week after its release and instantly got hooked on this new style of fighting game. Well now my son has been begging for an MK game and I have been against it for a while because they have just gotten more violent and bloodier per release. I ran across this one and after reading some other reviews it seemed as if this one was toned down a bit. I ordered it and got it in and it does seem a little less gory and with the added benefit of him being able to fight as Superman this turned out to be a good purchase. I had to school him a few times but he caught on quick and took off and seems to love it. I gave it a shot after he went to bed and it is fun but just too repetitive. Maybe I am getting old but it just did not seem as fun as I remember MK being. I got hooked on WoW a few years ago so it has been a while since I played a fighting game, maybe I am out of touch with them but I got bored with it after about 15 fights. The story mode was a nice touch but still not enough to keep me going. The graphics look good on my 42" TV and it sounds pretty good too with surround sound. If you are into fighting games I would pick this one up because it is a nice twist on an excellent series, however if you get bored just punching away you might want to shop for something else. ... show more
