The quality of Moonshine Fly Rods are beyond expectations. I bought a Vesper 4wt 9’ rod and what a rod it is. It is super light (2.7 oz) and looks beautiful. When I first placed the order I went through Amazon. Although the rod was not damaged, the rod case was torn open on one end. Since the box showed no signs of damage, I have to believe someone at amazing was careless. Nonetheless, I emailed Moonshine and they told me to return it to Amazon for a refund. I made the next purchase directly from Moonshine. Dakota not only answered several of my questions, she helped me make a final decision on the Vesper. By buying directly from the company I also received a 10% LEO/Military/First Responder discount on the rod. I received the same discount when I added the Ross Reel Colorado to the order. There is an additional 10% off when you buy a reel with the rod. Great savings on an already great price. And shipping is free. The Colorado model Ross Reel is a classic reel redesigned with modern materials. Gorgeous reel and really like weight. Perfect match with the lightweight Vesper rod. In closing, this is a great company making great rods, and providing their customers with amazing service. Thank you Dakota. Thank you Moonshine. As an update to my review, I felt the platinum color of the Ross Reel was not a good look with the darker color of the Vesper Rod. Personal preference since the platinum color is still a great look. Nonetheless, I asked Moonshine if I could exchange the platinum color reel for the Black color. A simple email to customer service and within an hour of me making the request I received a notice that my reel was on its way. I cannot say enough about this company. I am so happy with my Moonshine Fly Rod, it was the 7WT Saltwater Series. Its sexy right out of the packaging! I have an Orvis Hydros IV reel that will going on it this week and loading up my lines right after. I am so excited to take this thing out on the Florida gulf-coastal saltwater! It is light, fast action and I will load it up with premium Rio flyline to ensure its top performance that based on many reviews i am confident it will. Love it and can't wait to get it out on the waters! Thank you for the sticker too, it went right onto my airline travel case immidiately! Well done on the embroidered rod tube as well. What I liked is everything you can imagine. Quality, well made, lite,good looking like me. If you can't afford one save up and when you are ready get one and I promise you won't be sorry. I have 2 other fly rods and neither one comes close to this rod.

I've been a two piece Sage guy forever. I needed a 4 piece travel rod to go back to my home state of Montana to fish. My first day with this rod was on the Yellowstone river, which is always a tall order for any 5 wt rod. Even with a breeze blowing, this rod really performed well. The weight to stiffness ratio is what impressed me most. It casted and caught cut throats like a breeze. It's next test was float tubing on a lake near the Big Horn mountains in Wyoming catching heavy aggressive rainbows. You're not going to find a better rod for the money. I have been coveting and looking at Moonshine rods for a while now as I really love the designs and attention to detail. No clue as to how good they were as actual rods. So when I saw the Outcast II 8wt come available during one of the large sales I didn't blink and ordered a rod for an upcoming trip to Mauritius. I am not joking in saying this rod will make you look like a pro! Every site cast literally placed the streamer or dry fly (yes dry fly for bonefish, who thought it!?) within a foot of where I was casting and layed the line perfectly EVERY SINGLE TIME! I landed some small guys, but the action on the set and keeping the hook set all the way to bringing the fish's in was flawless. So in summary, an amazing rod which is light but has some awesome power and an amazing discussion provoking design! ... show more

Pole feels great in the hand very light. Though it’s categorized at a medium, be very cautious of it breaking when on a larger fish or snag. I used the pole one time, snagged a tree limb which was reeling in towards me so wasn’t anchored but enough to snap the pole just above the cork handle and below the first eye. I submitted a claim and paid 35$ and received a new butt section of the pole. I used it several times caught some small rainbows on it and recently went to reposition the pole in the bed of my truck, lifting the pole less than 12” off the bed and it snapped in my hand like a twig. Like I said it’s a beautiful pole, felt great casting and catching fish with but it’s simply not a durable rod what so ever. I’ve never broken a rod like this before in my life and I’m 37 years old been fishing since I can remember walking…hate leaving reviews like this bc the company seems awesome but it’s just not a high quality pole… ... show more

Only ever had Orvis. Needed a quick 9wt 9ft fly rod and honestly I was surprised. Large streamer, 40lb tippet with 25 leader. Not one issue, great role over and a solid back bone. It’s not made in the US but it’s a very high quality rod made overseas. Handled a 13b striper with ease
