Description

Inspired by the classic MOOG modular synthesizers that came before it, Grandmother's sound engine, modulation engine and onboard spring reverb tank are completely analog, resulting in an unrestricted sonic vocabulary of immeasurable beauty and power. In addition, Grandmother also features an easy to use Arpeggiator and Sequencer for added enjoyment and programmable syncopation. Though not required, creative patching and exploration are the keys to discovering exciting new relationships between modules and to truly unlocking Grandmother’s infinite expanse of auditory inspiration. Patching can also be used to override internal connections, allowing each section to function just as an independent module would. In addition to its standalone function, Grandmother is also an ideal analog audio processor for external sound sources, and a powerful keyboard front end for expanding a Mother-32, DFAM or Eurorack modular system.

  • Major happy surprise
Absolutely wonderful instrument. This replaces an ARP Odyssey reissue we had and is so well made, sounds amazing, and is easy to use. Very nice quality parts and made in USA.

  • A rich sound with ghostly spring reverb
Incredibly rich sound. The spring reverb gets really wet and adds a new dimension to your sound.

  • Scratchy pots, loose nuts and black marker through barcode doesn’t feel right
Been some time ago now but here we go….Barcodes had black marker scratched through them and I was told this was normal when a sale happens with this store….seems suspect but ok. Scratchy pots and more scratchy pots and loose nuts….so I’m not sure as it seems these Grandmothers have many faulty pots but the black marker and loose bolts seem suspect and I would find another place to purchase or inspect your purchase top to bottom and then again. ... show more

  • Not what I expected.
Disappointed. Limited pitch range. Mod wheel doesn't seem to fully respond. My initial review was positive, but once I got into using the Moog I realized some of the basics were not all there. There is little difference in the sound of the wave forms when you switch from triangle to sawtooth to pulse. I was able to extend the pitch range by connecting a separate midi controller, but I wanted to be able to use the Moog keyboard which doesn't seem to transpose far beyond 2 1/2 octaves. Even my 2 octave midi keyboard gives it a far greater pitch bend and transpose range. One of the reasons I bought this synth was that it had a built-in keyboard, but I now realize I'd have been better off just buying a module without a keyboard. Why pay extra for the keyboard when it works better with a separate controller? Even my sub phatty had a better pitch range. ... show more

  • The Best Synth I Have Ever Owned.
I have owned a Minimoog Model D back in the day, but with no midi or recording means, all I could do is mess with it. I later bought a Moog Satellite, a small preset Synth that I miss more than words can say, but no midi and no means as above. When the computer arrived, I bought many vintage soft synths, and yes, they did satisfy me. But then when Eurorack arrive and Moog put out the Mother-32, I bought one, and I knew that my sampled synths were done. I have since bought the Behringer Model D, the Roland SE-02, the Korg ARP, but I would gladly part with almost all of them because the Moog Grandmother gives me everything I ever wanted; a easy-to-use, modular, sequenced keyboard synthesizer. And it is a beauty. From the off-key 70's color to the modulations that has sample and hold built in, to the sequencer/arpeggiator that is so easy to use, to the great built, to the ease with which I was able to sync the GM with both Logic and Protools. And finally, the built in Spring Reverb. What more can a growing synthhead want? Nothing, I say. Nothing. Worth every penny. ... show more

  • That Moog Sound!
Although I did not purchase from Amazon (purchased locally), this may very well be your gateway drug into the addiction that is Moog. Having worked primarily with software based synths like Komplete (an OP-1 and an Arturia MiniBrute2 being my only prior hardware) I can say without a doubt this is one sweet piece of kit. Ive had the pleasure of fiddling around with several Moog devices over the years and this retains that amazing Moog sound. The fit and finish on everything from the exterior of the unit to the keyboard and dials are what you would expect from a company with their legacy. I have only had it for a few days so I have yet to really dig into the sonic possibilities but I can guarantee you will not be disappointed by adding this to your studio. Stay inspired and enjoy life! ... show more
