  • Monstrum delivers again
Color: Black
This marks my third Monstrum optic and they again delivered an optic whose quality far exceeds its price. Pros: Super clear glass Bright R&G illumination Clear etched non-illuminated reticle Quality, durable feel and construction Appealing aesthetically with a quality finish Versatile size for use on various firearms Cons (admittedly nitpicky): W&E turrets can’t be adjusted with caps like other Monstrum optics Lens cover is basic and not flip up (but still effective) A tad on the heavy side for its size Overall, for less than $100 this is a great buy for a prism optic and I’d certainly recommend it to those that are interested. ... show more

  • Lot of scope for a Little money
Color: Black
I was a little sceptical knowing it was a China import but first impressions we're all good and I honestly don't see any real issues with this scope. It comes in a really nice quality well padded box that gives the impression that something of quality is being protected inside. Opening it up you find the scope is sealed and protected in a heavy plastic pouch and comes with a battery installed, an extra battery, lens cloth and a well written (in clear english) manual. First off... I haven't shot with it yet but I'm giving my opinions of it so far. I can't comment on the claims that the turrets are labeled backwards (needing to adjust opposite how it's marked for windage and elevation) ...but I don't really care if they are, no biggie. I can say the glass seems really clear for an $82 scope. Build quality seems solid, feels maybe a tad heavy but that translates to durable and tuff.. it's fine. Finish isn't quite what I see on my more expensive scopes but it looks good, nothing obvious, the aluminum casting maybe not be as perfect as more expensive scopes. Reticle was blurred at first but after adjusting the eye focus ring it's perfect and sharp as can be. The illuminated reticle works as it should, helps when dark or shaded but not really needed in most normal day time lighting conditions. Again I haven't shot it yet but can't see there being any issues. Best I can tell it's a great value for the price payed. As far as mounting.. I bought this for my flat top AR .22cal. Standard sight height on the AR platform seems to be about 2-3/4 center to center above bore. For me the stock scope set right at 2-1/2 which is probably ok for some. I liked it on a 1/2 quick release riser making it a 3" center height with the eyepiece right at flush with the back edge of charging handle. This left no room for BUIS (backup sights) but works best for me. Sorry so long. I say it's good to go and think I'll get one for my 9mm carbine too if things go as well as I expect. Good luck! ... show more

  • Backwards, but great overall!
Let me preface this review with the fact that I spent many yrs in Special operations and have used every high-end piece of hardware available in the worst places and conditions. I purchased this as a present for my son for his weapon, so ACOG quality was not required. That being said, I was actually quite surprised at the overall hefty construction for its price. Great tan coating, excellent optics, especially for the $$, and its base is what I would consider Mil-Spec quality..so far.. The reticle is really decent, and my son loved it. Lighted rets I can take or leave, and will usually leave as they are always the first thing to break on all lower end scopes, but this one so far does seem to be built solidly. So, for optic clarity, a well designed reticle, solid base and solid scope body I gave it 4 stars. Now for the bad news which I found to be very odd. I was a sniper in 2 military's', so zeroing a weapon is not exactly new to me. However, this past Monday for a moment I thought I may have finally lost my edge. After a quit and dirty bore sighting of the weapon we sat at our dedicated shooting bench overlooking our personal 1500 yard range working on the 100yd target. The rifle shot high as I expected. As I began to move the turrets as marked, which is how all US made scopes move their reticles up/down and sideways, I continued to fire. It moved UP not DOWN as expected! So I continued until the weapon shot clear over the target by some distance. It turned out that someone was not paying attention in Russia or China, or where ever these scopes are made, because on our scope DOWN is UP and RIGHT is LEFT. Exactly as one may expect to find on any Russian made optic. Well, after I saw what was going on it only took a couple of shots to get it in the black and dialed in. So far after about 100 rnds the scope is holding zero, so thats good. I am however going to call the company to see what they have to say about it. All in all as I said, its hefty, seems well made and has great optics at this price point and the reticle is very fast coming up. Also tracks really well with both eyes open at short range. The opposite turret feedback isnt a deal breaker for me as I know it would be for most. But in the end this scope has several key good points about it, price being one, holding zero is another, and if the company offers to send me another one as a replacement, I will try that one out and send this one back if it checks out. Outside of that I would keep this one, and I would recommend it to others. ... show more
