Description

Secure dinosaur paddocks and other areas but beware of the T. Rex; it doesn't follow rules! Build fences to protect paddocks from the attack and earn money by charging rent, but prepare for damaged property. Activate the gate to hear the Jurassic Park movie theme song or a dinosaur roar, which will determine how much money to collect. The last player with money when all others have gone bankrupt wins. The game also ends if the T. Rex damages all properties before they can be protected with fences or repaired. Then everyone loses! The Monopoly: Jurassic Park Edition game is for kids ages 8 and up.

This is one of those products that gets enough perfectly right that the things that are a miss are a bit aggravating as you just know if could have been So Much Better. First, wonderful graphics, the pieces are well thought out, the game play is enough like classic monopoly to be familiar with just enough twists to be fun and interesting. Honestly, the game play itself is 5/5. All my complaints are with the design. 1. The pieces are people from the movie. They are solid, and when you look at them closely, identifiable. However, it’s had to tell them apart on the game board. We will be adding some paint to the bases to aid in that. 2. The “properties” are all dinosaurs and here’s were the biggest miss is for me. All the Dino’s from the first movie are represented, with highly imaginative names like Triceratops I, Triceratops II, and Triceratops III. I feel an opportunity to go dino-crazy was missed. We could have had Triceratops, Diabloceratops, and Protoceratops. This is definitely where marketing won. 3. The box is horribly organized. There’s not slots for the money, nowhere to put the dice, people, or cards. Terrible. This means set up take so much longer than it needs to as someone has to separate out money, cards. Etc. 4. The fences are awful. You did all this design work on the people, the T-rex, the sound gate, even the board and cards are looking good. Then you have these paper gates that barely remain standing. So disappointed as these easily could have been plastic bits like the hotels in regular monopoly. 5. The gate- wonderful concept, could have cut the song down by half. And I was expecting a much larger punishment for hearing the roar. We are considering house ruling that to you get nothing. The box made it seem so much worse that just getting slightly less money. All in all. The game is good. We like the game. My 8 year old got it for her birthday and we played it 3 times within 2 days of opening it and she’s asking for more! She doesn’t care about the issues us adults have with it. It’s got a T. rex and money, all the things she needs in a game. But for us board gamer adults, we are disappointed that this game which spent so much on licensing and the metal T. rex fell so flat on other things. It will probably not be something we’d pull out at grown up game night but will play the crap out of with the kids. ... show more

I am a Jurassic Park/Monopoly nerd so this was a no brainer for me and the wife. The game I feel like is hard not that I am complaining, I enjoy a challenge. I love this game I really love the original but this takes things to a whole new level my son is obsessed with Jurassic Park so it is a perfect combination of both franchises and teaches him about money all at the same time. Game as a whole is awesome! From the exterior graphic art I expected the interior to follow in the same style. However interior is photo-style art instead of graphic paint like the exterior would leave you to believe. It’s a little thing but I love it when games wow you with their art ~ and this one was cool on the outside, fun to play, but the only thing the interior art is lacking. ... show more

    • 4 stars because its jurassic park, but overall low quality board game
so just to start, dont get me wrong, this is a really fun and unique version of monopoly; especially if you are a fan of Jurassic Park. but here i will go through the pros and cons of the product i received. pros: -its jurassic park themed and has a very cool custom rule set - the trex being a third NPC player is a really cool aspect. -the gate looks awesome and the sound FX are film accurate. - the figurines are a must have for any JP fan - the repair and fence building is a really fun and unique aspect of this custom monopoly rather then just being a different themed board. Cons: - My board came slightly warped so it doesnt sit flat, this isnt a huge issue but is slightly annoying until i get a clamp to flatten it out. - When the Gate plays the JP theme its ridiculously loud, thank goodness it can be turned off with a second push because i couldnt find the speaker to try and muffle it. - fence peices are made of paper, since they are meant to replace houses and hotels would be nice if they were plastic (could of easily been done on the cheap) since im not sure how long these peices will last. Overview: All and all this is a really cool version of monopoly with a really fun and refreshing rule set and a must have for any Jurassic Park fan. Just dont expect a board the quality of the standard monopoly version if my experience is anything close to standard. 8/10 would order for a friend. ... show more

Got it technically for the wife as she is a huge Jurassic fan but with the rules and game pieces, we were all excited to play as a family. We slowly been collecting more monopoly games for the fun unique rules
