I doubt this will be brief.... Started with a Yamaha 3050, which was the first receiver I've ever had with a dead silent background (no static hiss coming from the speakers) and what felt like "high-end" sound quality, along with my Atlantic Technology 350 speakers up front (2200s everywhere else). However, the 350s started to die so I went in search of other, equivalent speakers and decided on the M&K S-150s. Since they're power hungry I knew I needed another, stronger amplifer than what was in the receiver, so I picked up an Emotiva XPA-5 2nd Gen. The match-up of the Emotiva and the M&Ks gave a super punchy, impactful sound with a much, MUCH tighter mid-range than before. There was, however.... a hiss. A hiss had started to come out of my speakers again. It was definitely the Emotiva doing it. The treble was also a lot less clear but it hard for me to discern whether or not that was the speakers or the amp doing it since I swapped both at the same time. But certain movies that I really enjoyed watching at high volume became grating to the ears (Fury Road and The 5th Element.) But that there was a hiss, and one that was definitely coming from the tweeter(s). Very disappointing. So I either needed new speakers or another amplifier, but which to upgrade first?--I'm not made of cash! The only speakers I'd want to upgrade to would cost $3,000+, and I thought about jumping straight to an Outlaw Balanced amp, but they recently raised their prices, so I decided on the 5 channel Monoprice Monolith (with the XLR inputs). THE RESULTS: so far I am super impressed. Not only do I have my dead silent background again but everything sounds clearer and even more impactful than before. I ran through the movies that had been driving me crazy and they definitely less grating on the ears. For a minute I thought dynamics might be lacking, then I'd get punched in the chest. Watching Isle of Dogs for example (did not expect it to impress on the sound front), the various drum sequences had surprising power and slam coming through the speakers (did not seem to be coming from the subs--my subs aren't that fast.) It's hard for me to comment on the treble. It's definitely better than the Emotiva, but I don't know if it's as good as my Yamaha/350 combo. I threw the 350s back into the loop straight from the Yamaha and was blessed with this enormous, enveloping, silky sound bubble that I had missed for so long... but that was about all that was good with the sound. With the Monolith/150s, it's more like a sterile, laser-shot of sound right at you. Much like I had with the Emotiva/150s but slightly cleaner, smoother, and punchy. Also, it seems to me that both Emotiva and Monoprice owners sometimes complain about a hiss. The Emotiva I got was even straight from the factory (it had been refurbished). I have this theory that those hisses aren't within what either company would consider "failing" performance. Whether or not that slight hiss is something that amplifies with the signal and noticeably degrades the sound quality is another matter. However, so far the Monoprice definitely seems like an upgrade from the Emotiva, but then again it was a Gen 2 and not the new Gen 3. I'm extremely pleased thus far

The amplifier offers great quality for a great price. Extremely low distortion Class AB 7 channel solid-state amplifier. I has to massive toroidal transformers the unlike may other the circuit board an wiring is clean and well organized. It is well passively cooled as long as you leave proper airspace around it. The only down side is it weighs a lot, probably to heavy for most in wall rack mounts but fine for most floor standing av shelfs. you may need a second person to help you lift out of the box and on to a shelf. As far as people saying that the amplifier has a low hum distortion. They probably have a ground loop hum. It can caused by many things. I had one originally it traced it to my tv coax cable connecting to my cable box the ground loop was being carried from the coax line to my cable box and carried over to my receiver and then to my amplifier causing the hum on my speakers. I fixed it by putting a ground loop filter between my coax line and my cable box. Another step you can take to prevent ground loop hums it to run a ground wire from the ground terminal screw on the amp to the ground terminal screw on your receiver or preamp. The amp sounds great and has a lot of power, I originally was running MA700 Marantz mono block amps rated at 200 watts rms but even though the monolith amp is rated at 200 watts rms per channel as well i had to lower my volume by 10 -15 db as was much louder at the same volume level, too loud like it hurt my ears loud at the same volume level, and this is coming from some one who plays their movies in their home theater loud, usually get asked by other viewing with me to turn it down some.

This 7x200 amp was supposed to have a 5 year warranty, but only three channels are working after two and a half years (4 channels are dead), and the manufacturer is giving me the run around. First they told me I would have a replacement within a few weeks. Then they told me I was out of warranty. Then, once I pressed them to honor the published 5-year warranty, they told me the item is out of stock, but I can try to get a replacement in January of 2023. This item is available now on Amazon and other sites, but the manufacturer wants we to wait 6 months to call back and see if they can maybe help me. Really disappointed in their customer service.

I have been researching Amps for my new home theater build. Emotiva was my first choice but I kept looking at the monolith 7X. So when I saw they dropped the price to $1672 it was a no brainer to pull the trigger!!! This 93.7lb beast was delivered and it was a very good purchase! Even at regular price it’s a good deal! 200 watts x7 and I really believe they underrated it!!! My 3 Polk audio RTIA9’s are power hungry at 500 watts each but the monolith has no problem making them shine!!! I’ve only been using the amp for a few days but I’ve been putting it through it’s paces. John wick 1-3 is a good set of movies to test any setup! The 7x has no problem making those gunshots sounds like you’re there! A Quiet Place is another good movie to test your setup. The noise floor of the 7x is quiet. I didn’t hear any hum or buzzing. Then from the quiet scenes to something happening the 7x handles it with no problems! I guess the only thing I didn’t like or wish it could be better is the speaker connectors on the back. With the quality of this amp they looked cheap. That’s just my opinion!
