Top Amazon Reviews

  • This a solid mini kit and good value for the price.
Color: A-Nude
When my box arrived I opened to find a seal on one of the bottles was defective. Polygel had spilled out and gotten on both bottles and the brush. I contacted Amazon and had the option to return the whole thing, but after deliberation I decided to just keep it. It was about an eighth of one bottle and I had been wanting to start playing with polygel immediately and did not want to wait another week or so to return and get a replacement. The leaked polygel was clean so I scooped it out and saved what I could. It was a pain cleaning everything, but I'd rather do that then wait the time necessary to replace it. This was purely a manufacturing error though and does not seem to be a common issue looking at reviews. Besides that, the presentation was nice. Box was nice quality. The base and top coat bottles were classy looking. Everything was packaged well. Polygel does have a learning curve for newbies, but that is nothing specific to a brand. When you first try it does require practice to get the hang of things and get professional looking results. It doesn't take long though to produce acceptable looking cute nails and in my opinion is much easier to work with than acyrlics. I have since used another popular amazon polygel so I can compare to that the product quality. Both are durable and last just as long, but modelones is far easier to work with. It's not as stiff and sticky and spreads much easier. It's not too soft either and doesn't move much if at all after you get the shape you want. It cures in 60 seconds in my 36w lamp. I also have a 6w mini lamp and it cures with that too. These are sheer/clear colors and those tend to cure better than pigmented gels. They do have the sticky layer after curing that you need to wipe off with alcohol. I noticed a lot of people dont know that and think their polygel isn't cured. And if your gel truly is not curing then it's likely that your lamp is not good, and not the polygel since this stuff cures just fine for everyone else. The clear is not cloudy and encapsulated glitters very well. The peachy color is perfect for nail beds. They are 30ml tubes so you get a lot of product. The base coat adheres to the nail very well and keeps the polygel adhered to it. Ive used it with another brand of polygel and it worked well with that too. The top coat is thick but not too thick and extremely glossy. I even use the top coat to adhere small 4mm crystals and they do not budge. The top and base are very nice quality. The slip solution works fine with the modelones gel. This polygel doesn't require a lot of it to mold the product unlike the other polygel I've tried. I did not use the dual forms. I prefer tips so I cant speak on those, but they are included if you want to use them. The file is small but very sturdy and the sandpaper on it is nice and gritty. The brush is cheaper and does not have a picker on it because it's a "travel" brush. I will say the brush end is decent to work with though. The hairs keep their thin, pointed shape and are firm. It makes working with the gel so much easier. I bought a cheap picker brush off Ebay that looks nicer but the brush is crap compared to this travel brush. The hairs on that have frayed out and it doesn't have the pointed shape anymore. I far prefer this travel brush even though it doesnt have the picker end. I definitely recommend the modelones polygel and this kit. If you are a beginner then research everything you need first. I had a uv/led lamp already and just bought some nail primer and dehydrator and some glitter and crystals to start. This kit is cheaper than buying a bigger kit so you can see if its something youd enjoy first rather than spending double the price on a bigger kit and deciding polygel is not for you. Modelones polygel specifically is good for beginners as its consistency is easier to work with compared to another popular brand. But if you dont have a lamp then buying a kit with a lamp would be advisable since youd get more for your money than buying this kit and a separate lamp. Up to you. Plenty of research should be done before you just jump in to polygel though. It is unfortunate I got a defective kit but it doesnt seem to be a common issue so I feel ok recommending this one. Sometimes things happen and as long as they are few and far between then it's not a huge deal. Amazon would have replaced it had I wanted to do so. ... show more

  • Definitely practice first
Color: A2-Deep nude
This is a great price an good to practice with. After being home I wanted something to make my nails stronger and easily accessible. This is something you really have to work at. It doesn't spread easy and not much slip solution. Make sure you watch some YouTube vids. Once you have the hang of it you have it. The form and deeply curved so if not your thing get separate. Also work great with the foldable forms so you don't have to worry about underneath. Cures beautiful too. You'll need the lamp separately. Overall, long as you work at it, great purpose. ... show more

Color: A2-Deep nude
this kit is a keeper , I absolutely love it , taking a long hiatus from the nail salon ... however be careful after my second application of new set of nails the UV light will Burn your nail bed upon curing for a min or three... make sure to remove the nails properly .... they will lift over time but what nails don't ....I am excited for this alternative and will be using this for a while . YES for beginners , as a licensed professional it took me two tries and they came out AMAZING , I will suggest you also get GOOD Nail Files if you do Not have a drill and a Good pair of nail clippers ...will make things easier frfr ... show more

  • Read for a very thorough review! Doesn’t last.
Color: A-Nude
I really wanted to give this product a good review. I really wanted to like it. I have some very amateur experience doing nails. By no means am I a professional, but i used to apply acrylic in high school. I have a pretty steady hand and can make my nails presentable. The application of a full set took me about two hours. I was new to the poly gel and I wanted to take my time and make sure that my set came out good. I read all the instructions, I watched videos on YouTube. Everyone was raving about poly gel application, but no one ever really spoke about how long they actually last. I found one video online of a woman who applied a full set, and within a week had one nail left. I figured she didn’t know what she was doing and purchased this product anyway. My first hand I applied the poly gel a little thick using more than what I needed on the dual form. But they still looked good. My second hand I tried to correct my technique and I went a little thinner on the second hand, still looked good. I feel that you need a nail drill to really smooth the cuticle area and give it that professional look. I love the curve of the nail I love how sharp the edges come out and how little you had to file them. The apricot color is really pretty and natural looking, I believe it would look good on any skin tone. The clear gel, I could live without it. The tubes are not fully filled, there is quite a bit of air in them. I dislike that the dual forms come in a bag instead of a box with organized cells like most other artificial nail kits. The kit came with everything as stated, I do wish that it came with a little spatula to scoop it out of the tube but the brush will work OK to do that. Within 3 hours of application I got into my car and broke a nail didn’t even realize when I broke it. The next day another nail. By the end of the week I had seven left and two of those were lifting at the cuticle. I tried to reinforce them with nail glue, this was a temporary fix. They ended up popping off anyway. I reapplied the poly gel to the broken nails, Then went horseback riding, and same day I broke three nails from simple holding the reins. Now I’m very irritated with the poly gel kit, but I’m determined to make it work. I bought a UV gel lamp and a bunch of other nail stuff as an investment. I really wanted to make this work. I googled all kinds of things to see why my nails were breaking. I did notice that the nails always broke at the free edge of my nail. The poly gel was usually left intact on my nail bed after the break. I came to the conclusion that the poly gel was too weak no matter how thin or thick that it was applied, too endure any length for a long period of time. So I started to experiment. I have nail tips laying around, I decided to glue on a nail tip and then apply the poly gel to my nail with the nail tip, the first nail I chose a dual form that was the exact size of my nail this worked OK except the edge of the artificial nail looked a little bulky And wasn’t completely covered in polygel. I had to go back and add a little to the edges. I could see that it was necessary to have a nail drill if I was going to do this method. There there were also some bubbles in the poly gel because it just didn’t fit the same as if you were putting the dual form on a bare nail. I tried the same method on another finger had some bubbling but not quite as smooth of an application to the cuticle area, I can foresee that one lifting up at the cuticle. If you do this method it’s better to apply the poly gel to the dual form thinly at the cuticle area. But still not terrible, again a drill is needed. I decided to apply just a plain nail tip and apply the poly gel with the same method as if it were acrylic. This resulted in the nail tip looking flat And uneven simply from my application. I would not recommend this method. Very unsightly. I then tried a nail tip with a dual form that was slightly larger than my nail to see if the larger size would result in more coverage of the the poly gel on the artificial nail and less air bubbles, the result was more air bubbles and still not edge to edge coverage. Conclusion: So all in all I think that I will buy a nail drill for about $20 -$30 and attempt to apply the poly gel with artificial nails using the correct dual form size for my finger and then just drill and file to shape as necessary. That’s the only way I can see these nails with standing any wear. The addition of the artificial nail tip does make them feel stronger and more sturdy. I believe if you are applying the poly gel too short natural nails, you’ll have no problem but if you want any length that’s where you’ll have issues. It’s really easy for beginners to apply. But whether you follow the instructions exactly as stated or you experiment like me, I still think a nail drill is necessary to file smoothly around the cuticle no matter the method you try. You will still need to read up on the technique to apply it, I learned that too much slip solution results and weak nails as well. ... show more

  • Was it me?
Color: A-Nude
Didn’t realize I needed a UV light for this, that’s on me. But also, don’t say “beginners kit” and not say on the headline that you’re gonna need a UV light that’s not included. People who don’t read like me won’t know until we go to use it *shrug*
