  • Love It!
The media could not be loaded. I have been playing drums for over 20 years. I have owned several real and electronic drum kits. The first thing to note about this kit is that it is FUN! Out of the box there is a USB charging cable, two drum sticks, a pair of pedals, and the drum pad. The charging cable connects to the drum pad via USB-C, and the other side is USB-A – a pretty standard set up that should not cause issues for anyone. The drum sticks are smaller than normal drum sticks, but they are well made and are appropriate for the pad–though I do think a normal sized pair of drum sticks would also work well. The drum pedals connect to the pad via one cable, which is convenient. One is for the hi-hat, and the other is for the bass drum. The hi-hat and bass drum are also included on the drum pad. On the drum pad, the hi-hat only plays open when the hi-hat pedal is not pressed (which is good!). Pressing on the hi-hat pedal makes the sound of hi-hats closing. Keeping the pedal pressed makes the drum pad hi-hat play a closed hi-hat. It is possible to play the open hi-hat as an accent while playing a beat, though it is not as easy as on a real kit (this is pretty normal for electronic drums). The bass pedal allows you to play beats very close together, which is great for faster genres of music. I was quite impressed at how responsive it is. The drum pad includes a bass drum and hi-hat (as mentioned) as well as two crashes, a ride, a low tom, floor tom, high tom, and snare. The snare also has a hi-hat tambourine bar on it. While small, it is not hard to play. This is a pretty complete kit that is laid out well. Best of all, pressing “STYLE” on the drum pad changes the drum sounds into seven unique types. There is also a “RYH” (rhythm) button that cycles through 10 song snippets without a drum accompaniment (which is good because it empowers you to make your own beat). The styles range from dance to Bossa Nova. This would be even better with a click track, but it is really cool. You can also plug in other sources of music through a headphone jack in the back. You can also plug in headphones into a separate headphone jack. There is also a "Demo" button that cycles through different drum beats. I guess this could be good for learning, too. There are tempo buttons (“T+” and “T-”) that adjust how sensitive the pad is (e.g., how quickly you can do a drum roll). These are helpful, but I did not notice a huge difference. Finally, there are volume buttons. The volume can go quite high without any distortion. Overall, this kit offers a great way to learn, to practice, and, most importantly, to have fun. You can bring it to a friend’s house while they play guitar or piano. It also has a battery, making it very portable (especially given the built-in speaker). ... show more

  • Excellent starter set, plays right out of box, DTX support means learning through apps.
The media could not be loaded. This set comes charged and you can start playings 5 seconds after you open the box. It has its charger cable, its foot pedals and two wooden drum sticks. We are a family with absolutely no knowledge of real drums, so this review is through that perspective. The pads are very responsive and the sound quality is much better than what I expected. It has this option where you can change the tune/feel of the sounds. It also has built in songs/rhythms that you can play along with, which are not that great in quality. The great thing about these, which make them deserve the 5 stars, is the plug-and-play DTX support. From my reading, DTX is a standard used by YAMAHA for its medium to high end electronic drum sets so that you can use its apps on your pc or phones for extra features, recording and learning. What I did was a quick chatgpt query into what software would be best for a kid learning an electronic drum set with DTX support and it gave me about 5-6 different options. We went with the Melodics app, which is what you can see in the video above. Its paid version costs about $20 a month or ($8 a month if paid yearly) and teaches you from an absolute beginner to advanced levels. The program is able to detect the headset without having to install anything and you can adjust things like sensitivity of the pads. One problem is the different layout of the pads in the app and on the set, but it is not a problem when you are learning since it is teaching individual pieces in the beginning. The left foot pedal has the feature where keeping it pressed makes the "open" hi-hat into a "closed" one and this is detected by the software I tried. My research did not result in any free apps that would have this functionality, if other reviewers find it please let me know. But combined with the Melodics app, I think this is an excellent starter set, with good responsivity and sound. ... show more

  • Fun intro to drumming
For what it is, and the price (around 50 bucks), this is a pretty fun and quality little drum kit. As a drummer for over 40 years, I can speak with some experience about drum products. This is not a drum set that someone who is looking to learn drum set should necessarily start with, unless we are talking about a small child. The pedals are "keyboard" style pedals, and do not have anywhere near the same kind of action a real drum pedal has, so you can't do the same things, obviously, but very simple bass drum patters are possible. The included sounds are good, and feature a good variety. The external speaker is, as expected, lacking, but the kit sounds pretty good through decent headphones or through an amplifier. It has a bunch of different rhythms that you can play along with, also some cheesy songs that you can provide the beat for. Controls are large and easy to access on the top panel. The fact that it charges and can be taken anywhere without the need for cords or cables is awesome. In a REAL pinch, you could actually use this for band rehearsal, though it would definitely be awkward. For little kids or those who just want to plunk around on drum pads, it's a really fun set with a lot of options and versatility. If your school-aged child shows an interest in drums, I'd start with something like this and then move on to a real (or mesh electronic) drum kit. The included sticks are usable but not "quality" drum sticks, but ok for kids. Pad placement works ok, although, as a set drummer, I'd rearrange them to make it more playable, but once you get used to them, you can play with some flow. ... show more

  • Nice beginner set
We got this drum set for my 9-year-old son. He might be a little older for it, but it is perfect for him due to his developmental delays. It was an easy setup, and he was banging on those drums within minutes. I was super impressed with the quality of the set and the fantastic sound quality. This would make a really nice birthday or Christmas gift for any child to introduce them to music. ... show more
