  • Outstanding Value!!!
Color: White
I needed to replace 8 fans that have deteriorated over the years. My criteria was they need to be contemporary, small motor and have LED lighting. I have a bunch of Haiku fans in another location so I am well versed on what a $1000 fan is. While these are definitely not of the quality of the Haiku fans they have a few things in common. They both have very small motors and they are both made of a composite plastic. The big difference is that the Haiku fans use a DC motor and it is virtually silent when on. The Minka is a standard AC fan motor (although very small) that has the typical buzzing sound when in use you would expect with a fan at this price point. This is not an issue for me but may be for others. The build quality on this fan is outstanding, all parts are very well finished and assemble easily. The LED on this fan is bright, very bright and has no trouble illuminating every room I have installed them in. The remote is a typical cheap remote you find in fans at this price but it works very well. The fan installed in about 10 minutes with one person. It is very lightweight and very easy to carry up a ladder alone. Bottom line despite cheap remote, a little buzz from the motor, this fan looks great, has an amazing LED light and installs easily. At this price point there is nothing better in my opinion and for these reasons I give it 5 stars. I am very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend them. ... show more

  • The secret to dimming the light is….
Color: White
My interior designer chose this fan for our family room. We really like it. It gives gives plenty of air, is sleek looking and doesn’t stand out. Our ceilings and walls are white and that’s what we were going for. We have had this fan for just shy of a year now and always wondered why the remote control seemed like it had a dim the light option but never found it to work that way. I finally emailed the company ( they have great customer service by the way!) and felt compelled to come back and leave q review along with their response in hopes of helping others. Here is why that they said, “ The light dims in range by pressing and holding down the same button to turn on/off the light to see if it brightens or dims to your liking. Thank you kindly.” Alas! The lights do dim!! You won’t be disappointed in this fan. Should you have any issues, email them with a copy of your receipt ( so they know what you purchased) at fantech@minka.com ... show more

  • PAIN in the BUTT to install, but works well/ looks nice
Color: White
After replacing all the light fixtures in my house, I thought the obvious next step was the heinous, low-hanging living room ceiling fan (my house was flipped before I bought it with some interestingly modern taste). My ceiling is low so I ordered the 3.5" down-rod, which worked, but was a PAIN to install. First, as other reviewers have said, the receiver should be pre-wired and built into the unit. It barely barely fits into the canopy with all the wires, caps, hanger ball, and housing. Took me several evenings of taping up and bending wires so they're out of the way but still under the canopy. The manual is vague and the images are not detailed enough for a smooth assembly/ installation for first-timers. Some online videos help, but still don't give some of the detail you need to be successful (like precisely how to put the hanging ball on the down-rod, hint: rubber mallet!). Plan on several hours of tinkering and attempting to understand the installation instructions. If you use a short down-rod, its impossible to use a screwdriver to install the canopy and canopy cover because of the conical shape of the motor cover. I improvised and used some pliers to turn the screws and a really short driver bit to tighten, which did work in the end. One other note, I cannot get the LED to dim at all and its so bright/harsh you could do surgery under it. I will not be using the light unless I find a way to make it dim- I'm considering an off-brand dimmer switch because I would not be able to stand the distraction of the constant blue light in the Minka Aire one. Otherwise, now that its up and the pain is over, I do enjoy how quiet it is on low or medium (high is audible, but not over other ambient noises like music or TV) and how clean and sleek the fan is against a matching white ceiling. Its also high enough that I can't whack my hand on it while doing yoga, which was a main concern. ... show more

  • Beautiful looking fan!
Sleek design is beautiful. Bought the 52" fan in white for our 12x17' bedroom and it is the perfect size. Whisper quiet, moves air well, various settings and light kit has adjustable brightness. Easy to install except the receiver didn't work when we first installed fan. Minka Aire tech support worked very courteously with us and it took two tries, but the third receiver we got works perfectly. If this happens to you, don't give up -- call Minka Aire to get a working receiver because the fan is wonderful. Quietest ceiling fan we've ever had. ... show more

  • Overpriced plastic fan.
Color: White
Wanted to order four of these for different rooms but opted for one just to see quality, fit and finish. The good; Modern looks, moves “fair” amount of air but no more than other fans we have. Install was fairly intuitive. The not so good; It wobbles. The included manual states “All blade sets are grouped together by weight” Not sure how mass produced plastic blades won’t have the same basic weight but these do not. Other plastic blades we have on fans ( costing considerably less) don’t wobble as much as these. There is a definite low hum when the fan is running as noted by many other reviews. The LED light is harsh and has a flicker at some settings. You need to get on a ladder to reverse fan direction. In all, a fan like this should cost a fraction at a big box store for the quality you get but for a $385 fan it’s unacceptable. Debating whether to keep it or to return since it’s installed in a back room. Definitely will not be ordering anymore Minka-Aire fans. ... show more
